Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700

At first glance the 14.1-megapixel, 5x optical zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 “travel zoom” compact closely resembles the previously reviewed DMC-FX70 , with which it shares the same sized sensor; namely it's a conventionally boxy looking pocket...

Reasonably easy to use, Full HD video clips with stereo sound, compact, lightweight and unobtrusive, 5x optical zoom can be used when recording video, dedicated video record button makes for more user friendly operation

Costly, if going by the manufacturer’s recommended price, noticeable loss of quality at highest ISO equivalents

Whilst in general terms the above suggests the FX700 is just what’s required for anyone looking for a point and shoot equipped with most of the current must haves, it does come at a price. Although the manufacturer’s suggested price is a rather high...

Size, shape and image quality

Annoying touchscreen and manual restrictions

The control method and restrictions on manual overrides makes the Panasonic Lumix FX700 something of a letdown

Panasonic Lumix FX700: Compact and stylish, yet with full HD video capture

A nice camera that offers the best combination of auto functions and manual control we’ve seen so far. It has its foibles and the price is high, but it's a good all-rounder

Panasonic DMC FX700

This camera offers touch screen control, plus some extra manual controls that you do not see very often in a camera of this size. The FX700 has a simple design. It is easy enough to use, but it may take a while to master the various features it has on...

Features - Handling - Touch Control - Build Quality

LCD screen could be clearer - Picture Quality

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FX700 ticks a lot of the right boxes, but I don't think picture quality matches up to the features on offer. That is a shame as the combination of basic manual controls, plus a touch screen interface is very appealing.

Panasonic DMC-FX700 snapshot review

Daniel Bell reviews the Panasonic DMC-FX700, offering a 14.1Mp sensor, 5x optical zoom and a 24mm f/2.2 wide angle lens.

Looks great; White-balance performance; Advanced functions such as aperture priority, shutter priority and manual

Quite pricey

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 has a hefty price comes but also a hefty features set including great-looking still images, blazing fast speed, a touch-screen LCD, a bright lens, and powerful HD video recording.

Great still images. Powerful video recording options. Bright lens (f/2.2). Touch-screen interface. Automatic and manual shooting. Negligible shutter lag. Fast burst mode.

Expensive. Dull LCD. Marginal high-ISO performance. Proprietary USB port.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 is loaded with features, as it should be with a near $400 MSRP. The lens is probably the main attraction for most potential buyers, and understandably so. Although many people are attracted to long zooms, the bright f2.2...

F2.2 ultrawide-angle lens; 1080i movie capture; fast performance; compact for its features.

Disappointing low-light/high-ISO photos; smallish low-res touch screen; no raw capture.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 is a fast, feature-packed compact in need of some better low-light photo processing.
