Is the GF6 the perfect upgrade from a compact?

Good image quality and noise control, Vari-angle LCD screen is useful, Advanced and flexible control set-up

Buttons on touchscreen too small, So-so battery life, Over sharp JPEGs

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 review - Easy step up for those purchasing their first interchangeable lens camera

New entry-level ‘G'-system interchangeable lens camera from premier brand

Affordable route to ownership of an interchangeable lens camera, consistent imaging performance, solidly built, tilting rear LCD and option of both touch screen and hard key operation

No available means of attaching extras such as an eye-level viewfinder or flash, progressively noisier images the lower the available light level, small rear plate buttons and plastic-y scroll wheel betray budget price point

If you’re not bothered about attaching accessories and won’t often be shooting at higher ISO settings without flash, the GF6 is a competent, compact all-rounder for those wanting images that almost ape a DSLR but without the bulk attached. For...

Panasonic Lumix GF6 Review

The Panasonic Lumix GF6 is the latest entry level mirrorless camera from Panasonic, and features a 16 megapixel sensor, 3inch tilting touch screen and built in Wi-Fi as well as NFC.

Wi-Fi built in - remote operation, Great image quality, Panoramic mode, Lens hood provided with new kit lens, High resolution tilting touch-screen, Fast operation, focus, shot to shot, Access to a wide range of Micro Four Thirds lenses, Mode dial...

No flash hot-shoe, Loud shutter (compared to other mirrorless cameras), Would be nice if Wi-Fi supported direct uploads to social media sites, rather than going via Lumix logon

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 captures images with excellent quality, but it's not a good option for burst shooting.

Sharp, tilting, touch-screen display. Hinged flash with bounce. Quick autofocus. Clean JPG output through ISO 3200. Raw shooting support. Fast startup. Wi-Fi with NFC. Includes good starter lens.

No EVF option. Burst shooting limited to 3.5fps. Lacks shoe and mic input. Limited burst shooting in Raw.

Wi-Fi, with support for NFC, is standard on the GF6. Once you've downloaded the free Lumix Link app for iOS or Android you'll be able to transfer photos to your device, and use it as a wireless remote to choose a focus point and fire the GF6's...
