Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 Waterproof Compact Camera Hands-on Review - Digital Camera Reviews

Hugo heads out to sea and puts the Panasonic FT1's waterproof claims to the test.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is the company's first attempt at a rugged compact camera and, generally speaking, it's a success. The camera isn't as impervious to shock and the elements as some of the competition; it is waterproof up to a depth of 10...

Well designed; very good performance, photo, and video quality.

Expensive; soft photos.

A full-featured waterproof/shockproof pocket point-and-shoot, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is a near-perfect rugged camera for everyday use.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 review

This is one of the more expensive waterproof cameras, but the superb photo and video quality, versatile lens and compact, rugged design make it worth splashing out on.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 is a 12.1MP ruggedized compact with 4.6x optical zoom (28-128mm). It has a 2.7-inch LCD, 720p HD video mode, face recognition and AF tracking. Waterproof to 3m, dustproof and shockproof for 1.5 falls, it measures 98x63x23mm...

If you’re intent on punishing your camera, the Olympus Tough-8000 can dive deeper, fall further and freeze, er, cooler than the Panasonic. But if you want a decent all-round, all-weather snapper, the FT1’s wider zoom range, good stabilisation and...

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1 digital camera

A rugged Panasonic digital camera that's suitable for just about any outdoor activity, and it also shoots HD video

Waterproof down to 3m, shockproof up to 1.5m, can record HD video at 1280x720 pixels, versatile focusing modes

Has a zoom slider instead of buttons, slow shooting performance, poorly placed rotational dial, no tap controls, a little pricey

There's plenty to like about the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1 apart from its rugged build — it takes great still images and good videos, making it a true hybrid. We think Panasonic should ditch the zoom slider and replace it with buttons, and also make the...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is built for abuse, but in our tests this ruggedized shooter didn't quite live up to expectations.

4.6x wide-angle lens. 720p AVCHD video capture. Intuitive interface. HDMI port.

Image quality drops significantly at the outer edges of the frame. In our tests, water leaked into the battery compartment, resulting in some internal rusting. Zoom slider only worked sporadically after several trips to the beach.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Review

The Panasonic Lumix TS1 is a tough, go anywhere camera that is water and dust resistant as well as tough enough to drop from 5ft. Its set of features and image quality put it at the top of the list for a tough, compact camera, as does the price. Read...

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1

A hybrid digital camera that's a glutton for punishment.

Great for the beach, will withstand knocks and drops, can shoot 720p video

Some dirt got under the buttons of our pre-production model, slow performance
