Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1 digital camera

Panasonic says the TZ1 is a “Travelers Treasure”, but it looks, well, a little less like a gem and is a bit on the clunky side. It's not that small for a compact and it's not that stylish either. It's just a bit boring to look at. However, that...

Lens, OIS, build, white balance, easy to use, responsive, nice menus, movie mode

Noisy images in low ISO modes, worse noise in the images at high ISOs and, erm, more image noise problems from noise reduction removing image detail

If you’re the type of snapper that requires a neat, well-specified digital camera with plenty of auto control and you will likely print no larger than, say, 5 x 7-inch prints then the TZ1 is a cert to include on your wish list. But…

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 review

Panasonic is going all out for 'more is less'

Great for the size

Lacks the performance of larger competitors

This could be the only camera you ever need. Few can match its size, simplicity, zoom range and price-tag.

The TZ1 is a 10x zoom camera that's barely bigger than most 3x zoom cameras.

Panasonic DMC TZ1

If you are looking for a super zoom digital camera, but in a compact body then the Panasonic DMC TZ1 could well be the one for you. Much smaller than a standard super zoom it will even fit into a larger pocket.

Image stabilisation ; Aspect ratios ; Widescreen movies ; Clear LCD screen in the sun ; Ease of use

Purple fringing ; Small internal memory

The Panasonic DMC TZ1 is very compact for a digital camera with a 10x optical zoom. It is small enough to slip into a large pocket. Picture quality is good and the camera is also very easy to use.
