Pentax K-500

It has better specs than its nearest rivals, but is it acutally better?

Good image quality, Large and comfortable grip, Strong features compared to rivals

Noisy AF with kit lens, Dated interface, No visible AF point in viewfinder

Pentax K-500 review

Lots of superb features, but not quite the stunning bargain we'd hoped for

Pentax K-500 review - Affordable entry-level SLR that performs very well

More affordable DSLR brother to the weather proofed K-50, retaining many pluses

Good value in terms of build quality, handling and results, crisply detailed and colour rich results straight out of the camera, easy to get to grips with for anyone trading up to a DSLR for the first time

Fixed non-articulated LCD screen, lacks the weather proofing features of the K-50 at around £150 more, no body integral Wi-Fi or on-board GPS

The K-500 disproves conventional wisdom, which states that ‘affordable’ and ‘entry-level’ is shorthand for ‘compromise’. If you’re not contemplating shooting in the wet you could also save yourself £150 over the K-50 model. So those not already allied...

Pentax K-500 Review

With a feature set that wouldn't look out of place one more costly models, the K-500 is perhaps one of if not the best-specified entry-level DSLRs you'll find thanks in part to the large pentaprism viewfinder, 6fps burst shooting, dual control dials...

Pentax K-500 DSLR Review

This entry level DSLR uses the same 16.28MP CMOS sensor, the same SAFOX IXi+ AF system and, remarkably at this price level, even has a proper glass pentaprism finder with 100% field of view. This is indeed a high level of spec and it seems there are...

Excellent image quality, Fast operation including upgraded AF, Glass pentaprism viewfinder, In body shake reduction, Backwards compatibility with thousands of lenses, Wide ISO range, Excellent ergonomics, Excellent build quality, AA Battery option

No weather resistance, Loud focus on DAL lens

Pentax K-500

The Pentax K-500 boasts top-notch image quality, and a pentaprism viewfinder, which is unheard of at its entry-level price point.

Large pentaprism viewfinder. 5fps burst shooting. Customizable controls and noise reduction. In-body shake reduction. Very good high ISO performance. AA battery power.

Fixed rear LCD. No mic input. Slow to focus when recording video.

Unlike most D-SLRs, the K-500 ships in a configuration that supports AA battery power. It uses four cells, and you can actually get more life out of a set as compared to rechargeable Li-Ion battery. The camera is rated to capture 1,250 shots with a set...

Pentax K-500 DSLR Preview

Pentax just announced two new feature-laden DSLRs compatible with their K-mount lenses. The entry-level Pentax K-500 DSLR, which we are previewing here, shares most of the same features as the $100 more expensive K-50, with the exception of 120 custom...

Pentax K-500 Review

The Pentax K-500 is a new entry-level DSLR camera. Key features include an ISO range of 100-51200, Full HD 1080p video at 30, 25 and 24fps, 6fps continuous shooting, 11-point SAFOX IX+ AF system, High Dynamic Range mode, and a range of in-built digital...

The Pentax K-500 is identical to the K-50 that we reviewed yesterday, just without that camera's (and kit lens') weather-proofing, which actually makes the K-500 a bit of a bargain if you never intend to shoot regularly in the rain or more extreme...
