Pentax K-S2

The Pentax K-S2 is an entry-level DSLR with plenty to prove.

Great image quality, particularly for RAW ; Excellent viewfinder ; Handy OIS system

Fairly poor for video ; Non-touch screen

Pentax K-S2 review

Pentax continues to nip at the heels of Canon and Nikon in the DSLR market, and the K-S2 has quite a bite

Small size ; 100% Viewfinder ; Wi-Fi and NFC

Purple fringing evident sometimes ; Underexposes a little ; No touchscreen

Pentax is pitching the K-S2 as a 'family' camera, but its powerful features, twin control dials and weatherproofing will appeal to enthusiasts too. The specs are like the K-S1's, but the design is much more grown-up.

Pentax K-S2 review: A solid first-dSLR option -- if you don't care about video

For folks looking to step up from a point-and-shoot, the Pentax K-S2 has a lot to offer. But decent movie quality is not on the list.

The Pentax K-S2 offers excellent photo quality, a solid weather-sealed build, a big viewfinder and a broad feature set.

Its video quality is middling to poor.

For the first-timer or family photographer, the Pentax K-S2 is a nice dSLR, but it drops the ball for video and you should pass on the new 18-50mm kit lens.

Superb ergonomics and features, minor image quality niggles keep the Pentax K-S2 from top marks

Pentax K-S2

The Pentax K-S2 is a good match for enthusiast photographers and features a 20MP CMOS sensor without a low pass filter. It has a weather and dust resistant body, offers an optical pentaprism (100% field of view) and is the first Pentax DSLR with a...

Pentax K-S2 review

  (Rating Hidden)

Coming in above the quirky K-S1 in Pentax's DSLR line-up, the Pentax K-S2 is a slightly more conservative DSLR, despite the slick coloured strip on the bottom. Compact, weather-resistant and packed with accessible features, it's designed as a more...

Pentax K-S2

It's been a while since I have been sent a camera that stretches me a little. Providing the amount of stretching is a little I like it as it stops you getting into a rut that allows the camera to make all the choices without you having to think.

The Pentax K-S2 DSLR measures 12x11x9cm and it weights 848grams (without neck strap attached). The second figure the width is achieved by the lens being locked in closed position which makes the 18 to 55mm lens smaller than it would otherwise appear,...

Pentax K-S2 DSLR Review

John Riley reviews the Pentax K-S2 - Weather sealing, Wi-Fi, an articlated screen, and an all new lens, makes this an interesting new DSLR from Pentax.

Superb ergonomic design ; Fold out screen ; Glass pentaprism finder ; Weather resistance ; Value for money ; High image quality ; Built in Wi-Fi and NFC ; New compact retractable lens

No top screen ; Plastic outer shell rather than magnesium alloy ; Lower frame rates than K-3

It must be said that the K-S1 was a very attractive proposition, being a lovely camera to use and it came out of my review highly recommended. But the K-S2 tops that, without a doubt, proving that anything can be improved, no matter how well thought...

Pentax K-S2

Pentax's latest K-S2 sees a comprehensive set of features housed in a compact DSLR.

The K-S2 has everything you’d want from an enthusiast D-SLR. If you’re new to the market and haven’t already invested in lenses from another manufacturer, then this camera is certainly worth considering. Despite sharing a sensor and a few specs with...

Pentax K-S2

The Pentax K-S2 D-SLR packs a lot of features into its weather-sealed body, but its burst shooting capability is very limited and its companion Wi-Fi app needs some work.

Weather-sealed design. In-body image stabilization. Pentaprism viewfinder. Vari-angle LCD. Excellent high ISO image quality. Snappy autofocus system. Available in multiple colors. Dual control dials. Available with compact zoom lens.

Very limited shooting buffer. Lacks continuous focus in video mode. Companion app has issues. Video shows rolling shutter effect.

Performance and Conclusions The K-S2 is a responsive camera, but it's not the fastest model that the company has to offer. It starts and captures an in-focus image in about 1.3 seconds, focuses in about 0.07-second, and can capture short bursts of...
