Pentax K100D Super review

Pentax's entry-level SLR gets a revamp and a price drop

Well specified for an entry-level SLR ; Sturdily built yet portable ; The price certainly is 'Super'

Resolution not as high as its rivals

The K100D Super is all about price, price, price, and one enticing enough to overlook the modest headline resolution. That said, it packs in all the essentials and delivers crisp, colourful images out of the box. Plus you get a lens, making it a...

Pentax K100D Super 6Mp DSLR camera

The simple to use Pentax K100D Super looks every inch the real deal. It is a great choice if you want to make your first foray into digital SLR photography.

To sum up, the Pentax K100D Super is an unfussy, uncluttered user-friendly camera that is still packed with enough features for most amateur DSLR users. On our test shots, the Pentax delivered warm colours with just the right degree of softness for our...

Pentax K100D Super

Few frills from a camera more than capable of providing the fundamentals

A value for money camera that produces reliable results from a decent set of features

Pentax K100D Super

Pentax is a name with a loyal following, but the K100D isn't the company's finest hour.

It’s got some good features. 11-point auto focus, for instance, is far better than the 3-point system of other budget offerings. And we like the in-camera image stabilisation, potentially saving you having to shell out a ton of money on lenses with...

Pentax K100D Super

With a digital SLR camera you can produce superb photographs with strong technical attributes. The Macworld team take a look at six worthy contenders.

Good value, responsive, easy to use, dust reduction system, ISO3200, sharp colourful images

No rechargeable batteries supplied, weightier than competing models

Still, with the bundled 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL lens bolted to the front and plenty of light available, the results are crisp and colourful. This is an unfussy, user-friendly camera that has enough features for most amateur DSLR users. On test, it...

Pentax K100D Super

Although essentially an upgrade to the K100D, with its diminutive dimensions, solid build and great picture quality, the latest Pentax has its roots in the past...

Compact dimensions and solid construction, anti-shake compatibility with huge range of the makers legacy lenses, including early screw-fit.

Lowly six-megapixel resolution. Inexcusably limited continuous shooting.

Ultimately, while we might recommend the K100D for hobbyists on a very tight budget taking their first step up from a compact camera, if you're looking for fast operation and highly detailed prints, there are far better choices available

Pentax K100D Super

It's best in class on a number of specification fronts, but does this entry-level DSLR deserve its 'Super' moniker?...

Handling, Image Quality, Low noise, Built-in IS, Price

Burst shooting performance, Too menu dependent, Menu interface, No Raw+JPEG option

This clearly feels like a stop-gap camera to wring a few extra months of life out of the K100D until a proper replacement came along (the K200D), but it's no less worthy for that. It's nicely designed, performs well and delivers great results. There...

Pentax K100D Super Review

Can you make a camera better by adding the word Super on the end? Duncan Evans investigates what else is new about this entry-level DSLR from Pentax.

Shake Reduction technology; Anti-Dust action; Good build quality; High ISO ratings; sdm lens compatibility; Beginner modes; Decent image sharpness with supplied lens

Lacks sophisticated focus options

Pentax K100D Super

We were rather scathing in our write up of the K100D Super's predecessor, the plain old K100D. Our grumpiness was largely because the design hadn't changed much since the days of the *ist D - if anything this incarnation is larger, yet at the same time...
