Pentax Optio T30

With touch-screen technology and some fun features, this is a big improvement on the T20

Pentax Optio T30 review

Are touchscreens just a gimmick?

Touchscreen is fun and easy to use

Short on features ; Flimsy build ; Jerky zoom ; Pricey

The T30 is certainly fun to use and could be popular with those who find small switches and dials difficult to operate. Image quality is average and there's little else that leaps out from this compact. Try one out to see if you like the concept. Fun,...

Pentax Optio T30 digital camera

No sooner as Pentax released the Optio T20, the company has upgraded the camera to the Optio T30. We loved the T20, however we didn't love the fact that it took so long to take pictures that you miss the action.

That 3-inch touchscreen, picture quality

Still some delay in taking pictures, software still gets confused from time to time

We loved the T20, however we didn't love the fact that it took so long to take pictures that you miss the action.

Pentax Optio T30

The standout feature of this basic point-and-shoot digital camera is the touchscreen display, which transforms the way you take and edit pictures. So what's so great about touchscreen? Mainly the way it gets rid of all those fiddly buttons

Good quality touchscreen, Fun onboard editing tools, Little noise, except at high ISO rates, Decent battery life, Surprisingly good picture/video quality

Plastic not metal tripod screw

We love the touchscreen and the great picture quality, but the interface can be awkward

Pentax Optio T30

The Pentax Optio T30 doesn't forge any new ground over its predecessor the T20. In fact, we wonder whether Pentax found the 7.1Mp sensor, 2.9x optical zoom and beautiful 3in touchscreen in the T20's spare parts bin.

A solidly built, decent value camera, the Pentax Optio T30 suffers by comparison to similarly priced cameras such as the Panasonic DMC-FX12 and the Nikon Coolpix S10, particularly in terms of its feature set and picture quality.

Pentax Optio T30

Good image quality outdoors ; Excellent metering ; High resolution 3-inch touch screen ; Easy to master interface ; Solid and compact

Compression too strong, even at the highest image quality ; Sensitive to noise as of 200 ISO ; Underpowered flash

Pentax Optio T30

Anti shake technology and a boast of other features...

This takes such clear shots that its Digital Shake Reduction is almost unnecessary, only adding more noise to shots

Pentax Optio T30

A camera that has dinky little dials and buttons is all very well for James Bond, but what about the rest of us who have stubby chipolata-sized digits? Well, the Pentax Optio T30 offers a solution in the form of a touchscreen that actually works rather...

Pentax Optio T30

The latest Pentax compact features a touch-sensitive screen. We get Duncan Evans, who is also a bit sensitive, to check it out.

3in LCD; Touch screen operation; Excellent build quality; Great ISO range; Very simple to use; Stylish looking

Only 3x zoom

Pentax Optio T30 Digital Camera - Review - The Imaging Resource!

The Pentax Optio T30 features a seven megapixel CCD image sensor, coupled to an SMC Pentax-branded 3x optical zoom lens. Announced alongside the Optio M30, the Pentax T30 has the higher specification of the two models. Priced at $349.95, the Pentax...

Attractive design, easily portable ; Responsive touch screen ; Face detection autofocus and auto exposure ; Voice memo recording ; Memo pad mode with annotation possible on images ; Remembers many important settings ; Manual focus option ; Optional...

Crude touch screen icons ; Odd menu structure ; Battery can be inserted into charger several wrong ways ; Higher than average barrel distortion at wide angle ; High chromatic aberration ; Undersaturated color ; Warm indoor shots with Auto White Balance...

The Pentax T30 is an ultra compact, which is lighter than most, but it still has a substantial (and reassuring) heft. The front of the Pentax T30 is almost all lens and the back is almost all LCD. There are only two buttons on the back, in fact,...
