Pentax Optio Z10

A new Pentax compact that isn't a 3x zoom?

Pentax Optio Z10 digital camera

Out of the box, only a sliding front lens cover that also turns the camera on and off spoils the slim lines. The top plays host to one button, the shutter release while the back houses a nice, 2.5-inch, 230K-pixel colour screen, the easy to use zoom...

Easy to use, nice wide view screen, build and design, good focus and metering performance, nippy to use

Noise at all ISOs, pixel fringing, no “proper” image stabilisation or anti shake system

This is nicely made point and shoot digital camera comes with a few extra bells and whistles ringing the changes for Pentax, but it is also one with a few bells and whistles missing, ones that really should have been there to ring out loud and clear.

Pentax Optio Z10 review

An 8-megapixel pocket camera with a 7x zoom?

Solid build ; Easy to use

A bit bulky for a compact ; Poor image quality ; Flawed autofocus

A pocket-sized camera with a 7x zoom lens and 8MP to play with is a tempting package. The Pentax Optio Z10 scores in terms of build quality and the ease of use, but the image quality and autofocus are poor when compared with other, similarly priced...

Pentax Optio Z10 (Black) review

While most camera companies were designing cameras with sliding lens covers to mimic Sony's T-series cameras, Pentax didn't jump on that bandwagon. But, now that sliding covers have become a regular part of the digital camera design aesthetic, Pentax...

The Pentax has a 7x optical zoom lens; cute sliding lens cover design.

Slow between shots; no optical or sensor-shift image stabilization.

Pentax's Optio Z10 isn't quite as nice as the company's Optio S10, but its attractive price helps make up for its quirks and modest feature set.

Pentax Optio Z10

Superb build and design, but does it have the image quality?

An ideal camera for ambitious amateurs who aren't bothered about an abundance of fancy features.

Pentax Optio Z10

An affordable compact camera with 7x optical zoom.

7x optical zoom, attractive design, impressive array of modes and features, 52MB of onboard memory

No optical image stabiliser, below average image quality and battery life

The Pentax Optio Z10 is not without flaws, but the 7x optical zoom and impressive feature set help boost its appeal. For the asking price it is a decent little unit.
