Forget just changing lenses – the GXR is all about changing the whole lens-and-sensor combo, making this a camera for all seasons. But is it a gimmick too far?

Capable of awesome results with the right lens unit, but inconsistency and a high price tag pop it into a small niche

Ricoh GXR review

A compact that enables you to change the lens and sensor

Interesting design ; Build quality ; LCD screen ; APS-C sensor in 50mm unit

Small sensor in the 24-72mm unit ; Noise is an issue as medium to high ISO ; Quite pricey

The GXR's two-unit design is either bold or crazy, depending on your view. It has technical advantages but it's expensive. And while the 24-70mm camera unit might make sense as a start, its small sensor could scupper the concept before it gains momentum

Ricoh GXR review

The Ricoh GXR camera system features a new concept for consumer digital photography equipment. The GXR digital camera allows users to swap out not only lenses, but lenses with built-in sensors. An imaging sensor is not built into the GXR's body;...

There's no doubt that the best aspect of the Ricoh GXR is the ability to pair it with a large-sensor unit such as the GR Lens A12, which can take breathtaking pictures. While we did have issues with the slow and inaccurate focusing of that lens, its...

Ricoh GXR system review

As much as it is an interesting concept, the Ricoh GXR system is something of an oddity. Although I appreciate the idea of being able to take out a compact-style camera or a high-quality fixed-lens camera, I feel that Ricoh has created a solution to a...

Review of the Ricoh GXR P10. The latest addition to the GXR system… what does the P10 have to offer?

The P10 is a substantially built product and accommodates an innovative design and if the auto focus is sorted then Ricoh will have a winner on their hands.

Ricoh GXR A12

The A12 unit brings higher expectations which the focussing and shooting rate can’t meet. It’s great for macro and good for portraits but not for much else and for this you are paying over £1000.
