Sony Alpha SLT-A77 review

The Sony SLT-A77 is the long-awaited replacement for the DSLR-A700, Sony's previous ‘semi-pro' DSLR. The A77, of course, isn't actually a DSLR (Sony doesn't make them any more), despite looking and handling very much like one. Instead it's an SLT...

Sony Alpha SLT-A77

Sony's SLT-A77 has to be one of the most hotly-anticipated cameras of recent years. Since the Alpha A700 was pulled from production there's been something of a gap in the Alpha lineup – a gap that the A77 looks to fill. But with its SLT (Single Lens...

Super-fast burst mode, great movie mode, OLED viewfinder the best electronic viewfinder to date, weather-sealed body, competitive price

Electronic viewfinder still suffers some lag, poor battery life, 24.3MP sensor doesn’t cut it at higher ISO settings

A camera worth waiting for: the A77 certainly puts the SLT format on the map and is a worthy update of the A700. Its fast burst mode, continuous autofocus and solid 24MP image quality are all attractive qualities for an £1150 camera body.

Sony Alpha A77 review

24Mp and a groundbreaking viewfinder, bring it on!

Blisteringly fast phase detection AF ; Very good overall image quality ; Weather sealing and decent build ; Plenty of dedicated controls ; Comprehensive feature-set

Reduced battery life ; EVF may not suit everyone ; Aggressive noise reduction in JPEGs at high ISOs ; Slower start-up than an equivalent DSLR ; Lag when switching between EVF and LCD

Review units for Sony's long-anticipated replacement for the Alpha A700, the Sony Alpha A77, have finally made it to UK shores, although the worst flood disaster to strike Thailand for 50 years has hampered the camera's official release into the...

Sony Alpha SLT-A77V review

I'll lead off by saying that I enjoyed shooting with the Sony Alpha SLT-A77V more than any camera since the Nikon D7000 . It's heavy, especially with the 16-50mm kit lens (which, by the way, has become my favorite Sony lens), but the grip is comfy, it...

A well-designed camera that's enjoyable to shoot, partly thanks to a great viewfinder, the fixed-mirror Sony Alpha SLT-A77V bests the competition with features like a cleverly articulated display, built-in GPS for geotagging, and very good 1080/60p video.

There are some annoying omissions in the A77V's feature set, including odd limitations for raw and video shooting, plus battery life is subpar.

The Sony Alpha SLT-A77V is an excellent, well-designed camera for deep-pocketed amateurs; it nevertheless has a few limitations that may make it impractical for professionals.

Sony Alpha SLT-A77VQ review

The A77 is Sony's new top-of-the-range enthusiast SLR. It uses the same APS-C sensor size as entry-level SLRs rather than the full-frame sensors found in professional SLRs, but while we can't expect the absolute highest image quality money can buy,...

Packed with features and impressive strengths including a superb kit lens, but high noise levels and lethargic controls aren’t acceptable at this price

Sony Alpha A77 with 16-50mm lens review

Packed with features and impressive strengths including a superb kit lens, but high noise levels and lethargic controls aren't acceptable at this price

Reviewing shots was awkward because photos, AVCHD videos and MPEG-4 videos are stored in separate folders which have to be selected separately – there's no option to browse them all chronologically. This also made copying files off the card a little...

Sony Alpha 77 review

An impressive specification has certainly grabbed the attention here, and the Alpha 77 has been given more than a few tweaks over its predecessor. Sony has set the bar in several areas, not least of which is the inclusion of a high-resolution imaging...

Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm F2.8 ZA

The Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm F2.8 ZA is a compact, sharp wide-angle lens for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras, but it's on the pricey side.

Sony Alpha A77 Digital SLT Review

Joshua Waller reviews the new Sony Alpha A77 with the 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM Lens - the A77 is the top of the range 12fps 24.3 megapixel SLR/SLT from Sony.

Built in GPS; Extremely fast continuous shooting (12fps); Stunning OLED EVF (has to be seen to be believed); Excellent image quality; Excellent colour; Continuous focus during videos; AF Fine-tuning; Weather sealed magnesium alloy body; ISO50...
