Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 digital camera

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-H10 replaces the previous H3 model and as such sits snugly beneath the other "H" models in the range, which is topped by the DSC-H50 and now the latest and newest DSC-HX1. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 provides a comprehensive set...

Features, ease of use, handling, low ISO image quality

Price (for resolution), no optical viewfinder, small zoom buttons, odd lens hood attachment, high ISO noise issues, many "advanced" controls buried within menus

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 provides a comprehensive set of controls that want them but is really a sophisticated snapper since the power of the maul options on offer are always locked away in menus and the like. Image quality is good in low ISO modes...

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H10 Digital Camera Review

Despite being small, the Cyber-shot DSC-H10 is packed with advanced Sony technology including a high-power flash which illuminates subjects up to 14m away (at wide angle and ISO 3200 settings), making it an ideal choice for sporting events, family...

The large 3-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus screen is ideal for viewing and reviewing your shots, whilst the camera’s menu is easy to navigate. You can also fine-tune your images whilst they are on the camera, using the Cyber-shot DSC-H10’s red-eye...

Sony DSC H10

The Sony DSC H10 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens. It has a smaller, more compact body than most super zoom models. The DSC H10 takes a decent picture and also has a manual exposure mode.

Ease of use - shutter lag times - overall picture quality

Purple fringing

"This camera will appeal to anyone who needs plenty of zoom, but is looking for a smaller camera to carry around. With a manual exposure mode, a fast responding shutter, good all round photo quality, you have a camera that is very impressive."

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10

Big zoom, no noticeable barrel-roll, useful program modes

Soft images, plenty of chromatic aberration, spongy shutter button

This camera has a big zoom for its size, and features some useful program modes and manual setting possibilities, but if you want super-crisp photos at a resolution higher than 1600x1200, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 review

For the Cyber-shot DSC-H10 budget megazoom camera, Sony didn't change much from its predecessor, the Cyber-shot DSC-H3 . Only its 230,000-pixel 3-inch LCD is new, compared with the 115,000-pixel, 2.5-inch version on the H3. Given the lack of an...

Capable of excellent photos outdoors in good light; compact and comfortable.

No semimanual exposure modes; lens distortion; no zooming during movie capture; poor high-ISO noise profile; so-so auto white balance indoors.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 is a decent budget megazoom that can deliver very nice outdoor shots, but its photo quality falls short in other respects.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 Concise Review

The Cyber-shot DSC-H10 was announced in late January and comes as a successor to the DSC-H3 which itself was only launched a mere 5 months earlier. The H10 only constitutes a relatively minor upgrade with the new larger 3.0" screen with its increased...

Reliable 'point and shoot' performance Good image quality in good light; bright, sharp images with immediate 'consumer friendly' appeal Powerful flash with slow synch mode Efficient image stabilization Good zoom range (although only starting at 38mm)...

No real wide angle Manual mode only offers 2 F-stop settings Slow, unreliable focus in low light Only basic external controls Longwinded menu structure All-plastic body Non-standard video/USB connector Combined effects of noise and noise reduction at...

I mentioned in the introduction to this review that the only apparent difference between the Sony DSC-H10 and its predecessor - the H3 which we reviewed in January - is the size and resolution of the screen. So it won't come as a surprise that this...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10

The DSC-H10's unique features are overshadowed by poor flash image quality and iffy face detection. If you're in the market for a budget superzoom, there are better, lower-priced options out there.

Large 3-inch screen. Can preview ISO settings on the LCD. Little noise in low-light shots. Sports-shooting scene mode for capturing clear, fast-action shots.

Faulty face detection. Flash shots are overexposed. No optical viewfinder. Plastic body feels a bit flimsy.
