Sony Cyber-shot H2 review

May be overshadowed by first Alpha DSLR

Colours are vividly rendered and well-saturated ; Delivers an even exposure ; Reasonable level of detail

Can underexposure shots ; Highlights are occasionally blown-out ; Feels plasticy

The H2 offers an array of features, is fast and responsive, yet not without fault

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 review

Digital SLR-style compacts with high zoom ratio lenses and electronic viewfinders have been extraordinarily successful for manufacturers since their inception, around five or six years ago.

With slightly better image quality than the H1 and the same great responsiveness and handling, the Sony H2 is still a great choice

Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2 review

intro

12X zoom; image stabilization; decent selection of accessories.

Small LCD; large body; lots of noise at ISO 800 and above; no hotshoe.

The megazoom Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2's long, image-stabilized lens should have the soccer moms drooling--as long as they stick to the lower ISO speeds.

Sony DSC-H2

Very good image quality.Excellent colour rendition.Very good Multi metering.Stabilized 12X optical zoom.High definition EVF.Complete set of capture modes.Powerful flash.Good ergonomic design.

JPEG compression occasionally a bit too strong at the highest image quality. No RAW or uncompressed format.A bit of distortion at the wide angle end and a slight chromatic aberration.Mediocre software.

Cyber-shot DSC-H2

The H2 is a better-looking camera compared its predecessor, the H1, but it's underneath the silver polycarbonate shell that the refinements are more significant.

Low-light capability, responsive handling and great picture quality are fast becoming trademark qualities of the H-series.

Smaller screen than previous H1 is disappointing, and 30fps movies require PRO Duo cards, otherwise clips reveal

Colour saturation and rendition are particularly notable under outdoor light. Overall, the H2 nudges ahead of rivals in both picture quality and handling, making this the most beguiling example of the all high-zooms seen so far

Sony DSC H2

With six megapixels and a 12x optical zoom lens the Sony DSC H2 fits the bill as one of the better super zoom cameras. It is not one of the cheaper ones, but you do get a bit more quality than with many other models.

Sharp images ; Low shutter lag ; Picture quality ; Easy to use considering the features

Noise problems at ISO 400 ; Build quality a shade below the Canon Powershot S3 IS

The Sony DSC H2 is one of the best super zoom digital cameras I have tested. Picture quality is very good indoors and outside. I especially like the sharpness of the images the camera produces. Shutter lag times are also very low when compared to...

Big zoom, Nice colour balance

Poor image quality overall, Ugly

If you desperately need an advanced model with a 12X optical zoom then maybe the H2 is for you, but the poor sharpness level and strange design mean there are probably better choices elsewhere.
