Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3 review

Speed master Sony seems to have done it again

Good feature set

Some surprising omissions

Well built, well specced and fast for everything but RAW files. Speed-hungry RAW fanciers look elsewhere

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3

When you first see the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3, you'll notice that its design sits somewhere between the mock-SLRs and super-small compacts on the market at the moment

Although not without its flaws " specifically, its speed and handling " the V3 is an outstanding camera with some unique abilities. Image and build quality are as good as youll find anywhere, and overall perfo

The DSCV3's main selling points are its quick shutter and its comparatively simple menu system, but some competing cameras take better shots.

Good sized LCD screen, quick focus, low shutter lag

Below average battery life, requires manual manipulation to achieve quality results

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-V3 7.2 megapixel digital camera reviews

A couple reviews have turned up of the DSC-V3, Sony's new 7.2 megapixel prosumer digital camera, which sports a Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD, and can record MPEG 640x480 resolution videos at a full 30 frames per seconds (also worth...

Sony Cybershot DSC-V3 Product

A few features could make some people choose the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3 over the similar Canon PowerShot G6. The DSC-V3 has a 2.5-inch LCD on the back (the G6's measures 2 inches), and it has the same useful low-light modes that Sony originally...

Fast shutter Excellent low-light shooting modes

Battery life is below average

The camera has full-manual and aperture- and shutter-priority modes, of course; and it supports basic exposure bracketing. It lacks such exotic features as white-balance bracketing and focus bracketing, but the DSC-V3 is easier to use than most of its...

Fast shutter ; Excellent low-light shooting modes

Battery life is below average

A quick shutter, simple menus, and excellent low-light shooting aids make the DSC-V3 an attractive alternative to Canon's G6.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3 Review

The seven megapixel four times zoom DSC-V3 was announced on 30th August 2004. It's the first 'prosumer' level compact digital camera from Sony since 24th February 2003 when they announced the five megapixel four times zoom DSC-V1. Despite carrying the...

Very Good resolution, Low noise with some noise reduction, Good macro performance, Excellent build quality, good ergonomics, Proper hand grip, Excellent auto focus speed, Very fast shot to shot times (just over 1 sec), Excellent write speed (up to 4...

Tendency to use small apertures, Design fault with jog dial & program shift, About a third of a stop less sensitive than indicated, Limited image parameter adjustment, Poorly fitting flash unit, Lens retracts too quickly in play mode, Sharpening halo...

The DSC-V1 was a relatively compact camera, so it's clear the same can't be said of the DSC-V3, but curiously the increase in size has really only improved its usability.
