Sony HX400V review

Sony's bridge camera gets an overhaul and it's almost perfect

Large zoom range ; Great processor ; Good EVF

No touchscreen ; Can't shoot in raw

There are a lot of interesting functions that make the HX400V appealing, including the 50x optical zoom, built-in Wi-Fi and creative functions.

Sony pumps extra features into 50x zoom Cyber-shot HX400V

Its lens, sensor, and LCD remain unchanged from its predecessor, but a new processor, Wi-Fi, and GPS keep the flagship megazoom from getting stale.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V is a premium super-zoom camera that features a 50x, 24-1200mm zoom lens, 20.4 megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, BIONZ X processor, 1920x1080 50p Full HD video recording with stereo sound and HDMI output,...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V is a rather modest update of last year's HX300 model, principally adding a faster Bionz X processor, useful multi interface shoe, and Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity and built-in GPS. This doesn't feel like enough of a step...

Sony HX400V Review

With SLR-like styling, the 20.4-megapixel Sony HX400V ultrazoom is aimed at photographers looking for a reasonably sophisticated feature set, but who don't want the bulk and complexity of interchangeable lenses or the cost and relatively more limited...

Available from March 2014, the Sony HX400V ships only in a black-bodied version for about US$500.

Had issues

Found too much lag between using the zoom lever and the lens actually working, which would have made it unsuitable for taking wild life pictures.Didn't like it that the battery had to be charged in the camera. Not so convenient if you work with a spare...

Not found a problem with image stabilisation

  (Rating Hidden)

I have not noticed any image stabilisation problem but tend to use a small or gorilla tripod if possible. Tripod is probably always required for bracket or HDR photos which have extended shooting time.Very impressed with the 50 x zoom and the menu...
