Sony Mavica FD-91 Review

The Sony Mavica FD-91 is at the top of Sony's Mavica range of cameras (if you ignore the DSC-D700). Looking like something from a 1970's future technology magazine it's certainly not the best looking of Sony's range, but how it takes photographs is of...

Sony Mavica FD91

This is the Sony Mavica FD-91, it has a 850,000-pixel progressive scan CCD that yields 1024x768 images. The first thing you notice is that huge 14X zoom lens. This is the longest focal length lens available on any digital camera.

There are a lot of Mavicas to choose from, starting with the 640x480 models with and without a zoom all the way up to the FD-88 which has an 8X zoom and 1280x960 megapixel resolution. There's sure to be one to fit your needs and budget, if not, then it's

Digital Cameras - Sony Mavica FD91 Digital Camera Review

Despite its substantial bulk and hefty price point, we really liked all the MVC-FD91 had to offer. It's image resolution is modest by current standards, but the 14x optical zoom and excellent exposure control make this a very versatile camera. A very...

The top of the FD91 is fairly plain, lacking the small black & white status readout common to most digicams we've tested. You can see the grille for the onboard microphone at left, and the shutter button on the right. You can also see the ridged manual...

4 Star Digital Camera!

I was given this camera for Christmas of 2000. I instantly fell in love. The camera didnt need software... it uses a floppy that just inserts into any computer so that you can view instantly. You have several options when taking pictures with this...

Good Versatility, Lots of Options, MPEG Recording Ability, Floppy Drive (No PC Hardware Needed)

Big & Bulky, Battery Life Short

2 Years Experience

This camera is quite versatile and excellant for portrit photography. However, the negatives far outweight the positives for this unit.

Full features of most SLR's. External flash option

Disk access time is horrible with floppy or memory stick adapter.

Any Sony Digital works!

The first digital camera I had experience with was the Sony MVC 71; from there I moved to the MVC-91; and now, I have added the Sony MVC-CD1000 to my digital arsenal.Even at all of their original prices, they have more than earned their salt.

This camera is a great step up from the Sony MVC 71 series

Like anything else, it's behind technology once you walk out the store.

Simple, Compatible, Fun.

I bought one of these at work for use in plant maintenance. I had a hard time convincing the IS department that we should make an exception to the corporate standard (a Kodak Digital Science Camera) and allow me to purchase this camera. I finally won...

Easy to use, 3 1/2" Floppy compatibility.

Slight auto focus lag, kind of expensive.

After one year of use...

I am still in love with it. The rotating 2.5" LCD is convenient & accurate for previewing pictures or showing movies. It makes it much easier to get a picture at knee height, or with out alerting your subject.

Great SLR features & unparalelled zoom

Bulky, not the best resolution

PICTURE THIS

I started out in photography when I was a kid with one of those $14.95 cameras that used 126mm film. From there I progressed to (cheap) 35mm, then to (expensive) 35mm and, with a modestly price Ricoh, digital photography.

Takes great pictures, comfortable to operate, and the functions are clear.

Over-all shape could be better.
