Sony RX100 review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 is a high-end compact with a 20.2 megapixel sensor

Build quality ; Function control via lens ring ; Larger than average sensor

Very pricey for a pocket cam ; Small rear plate buttons ; Pics no match for DSLR or CSC

Sony RX100 IV review: Into video? The RX100 IV is your compact camera

With a ton of video-oriented capabilities, the Cyber-shot RX100 IV outshines (and out-costs) the rest of the enthusiast compact pack. For still photos, not so much.

Great video features to supplement its 4K capabilities distinguish the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV from the rest of the advanced-compact pack. It also retains the nice design perks, like a popup electronic viewfinder, of the earlier RX100 models.

Like its predecessor, the autofocus system could be more consistent and the battery life has gotten even worse.

A nice choice if you're looking for an advanced compact with class-leading video capabilities, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV is a little expensive if you just want a good camera for shooting stills.

Sony RX100 III is a costly improvement

Sony's enthusiast compact has some great features and delivers on image quality.

A great electronic viewfinder that doesn't increase the size of the svelte Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III is one of the camera's highlights. Plus it offers excellent performance, photo and video quality.

The camera shuts down when you retract the viewfinder, the autofocus system could be more consistent, and it has poor battery life.

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III is an overall great camera that delivers significant improvements over the RX100 II, but not everyone will think it's worth the extra cost.

Sony RX100 II: Expensive, but worth it

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II delivers excellent photos, speedy performance, and a broad feature set in an attractive, compact package.

The ; delivers excellent photos, speedy performance, and a broad feature set in an attractive, compact package.

The camera tends to clip bright highlights more than we typically see, and the slippery body lacks a grip. Plus, the lack of a manually triggered macro mode might put off some fans of close-up photography.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II's combination of looks, speed, flexibility, and photo quality makes it a great choice for enthusiasts who can afford the price tag.

Sony RX100 review

Camera design is all about compromise. Great pictures ideally need large sensors and fast lenses, but this usually means a heavier burden on your camera bag or wallet. Mirrorless cameras try to strike a middle ground by helping you capture DSLR-style...

Astonishing image quality for the size ; Solid, pocketable design ; Excellent interface

Unimpressive video performance and usability ; Expensive

If you want something portable, the RX100 is impossible to beat

Sony RX100 III review: As far as point and shoots go, this is the camera to beat!

Sony RX100 III is the latest addition to the RX series of advanced point and shoot cameras. It features an EVF and a fast lens. Let's see how it performs

Sony RX100 III improves upon the RX100 II, which in itself was a great point and shoot camera. It is not just an iterative update like the RX100 II was to the RX100, but adds in some major features such as a faster lens and a dedicated viewfinder,...

Sony RX100 II Review: The Best Compact Camera Gets a Little Bit Better

Sony's RX100 was an instant classic; a beautiful, pocketable camera that started the welcome trend of large-sensor compacts. The latest iteration keeps

It's worth re-stating that this is the best compact camera with an integrated zoom lens . You can find better performance with a fixed focal length compact like as the Ricoh GR for around $800. If you don't mind bulky interchangeable lenses, the Sony...

Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II is a pocket-sized camera with a large 20 Megapixel sensor and a 3.6x Carl Zeiss zoom with a bright focal ratio. Announced in June 2013, it's an upgraded version of the original RX100 launched one year previously. Depending...

Big sensor, pocketable compact form ; Articulated LCD screen ; Built in Wifi with NFC ; Excellent low light & high ISO performance ; Focus peaking ; Hotshoe supports external flash, EVF and mic ; Optional remote cable

Weak stabilisation ; Slow f4.9 maximum aperture at 100mm ; Digital zoom can't be disabled for movies ; Screen isn't touch-sensitive ; No miniature effect mode for movies

Like the best-selling RX100 before it, the Sony RX100 II delivers the same magic potion of large sensor performance in a compact format. When I wrote about the RX100 back in 2012 I said some people will 'complain it lacks a hotshoe, or an accessory...
