Xbox One S

Microsoft has made a new Xbox, only it's not entirely new. The Xbox One S is a 0.5 upgrade to the existing Xbox One, rather than its successor. But don't be fooled into thinking it's the same console, because this one has a few new tricks up its sleeves.

Xbox One S review

Frustrating ‘4K console' promises much on paper, but doesn't quite deliver...

Price ; Controller works well ; Rich colours ; Decent detail with 4K content

4K HDR images lack subtlety ; Lean sound ; Can’t pass-through 4K video, incompatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X ; Unintuitive menus

As tempting as the price may be, this ‘4K console' just doesn’t deliver

Xbox One S review: smaller, better, whiter

The same slick gaming platform you're used to, however now with upgraded 4K Ultra HD hotness

4K Ultra HD playback ; Slicker and slimmer console

Only 1.6TB of 2TB HDD usable

Xbox One S review: Entertainment for the whole family

The entertainment centre for the whole family: whether 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Netflix/Amazon support, or access to a raft of games, it's all here.

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray support with HDR ; 4K Netflix and Amazon Video playback ; 1080p HDR gaming ; Great wireless controller ; No power brick

Doesn't give you 4K gaming ; Slightly slower in operation to its beefier One X sibling

Arguably the most relevant console today, the One S brings something for everyone: there's the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Netflix support, while a raft of games are easily accessible - whether by download or on disc - making this a one-stop shop...

Microsoft Xbox One S review

The 4K console war has begun. Now bring on the PlayStation 4 Neo

You favourite games in pin-sharp detail ; The cheapest 4K Blu-ray player you can buy ; Sleek new design, sans power brick

PS4 still has the better exclusives ; Controller not rechargeable as standard

The best console you can buy, but for how long?

Xbox One S review

Xbox One S sets a new high point in console development

Vastly reduced physical footprint ; 4K & HDR streaming ; HDR gaming ; Xbox platform is steadily improving

Needs adapter for Kinect ; 4K gaming limited to upscaling

Xbox One S is the pinnacle of what Microsoft set out to create with the original Xbox One. Despite releasing over two years ago, the One S is everything a game console should be: sleek, powerful and well-stocked. It's not quite at Xbox One X's level in...

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition - why pay more for less?

Poor pricing and a lack of innovation make the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition an off-putting prospect.

A super low price on the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition right now would have given Microsoft a chance to show off to gamers how strong the company's future is looking and urge them to stick with Microsoft next-gen. We can only hope that by the time...
