New Nintendo 2DS XL

In a move that might have come as a surprise following the strong launch of the Nintendo Switch, arguably its most powerful handheld console, Nintendo is back with yet another new handheld in the Nintendo 3DS family of handhelds.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is the best-value Nintendo 3DS system family console to buy for everyone but the most ardent 3D fans.

New Nintendo 2DS XL review: gimmickless perfection

If this is the final DS console to be made, then it is one hell of a last hurrah

Simple but elegant design ; Incredibly reasonable price ; Awesome catalogue of games

The screen struggles to stay in place ; Ridiculously small stylus ; C stick isn't a serviceable analogue

Nintendo 2DS XL review: A fitting finale to over a decade of fun

Nintendo is surely ending this long-lasting handheld run with its finest DS console yet. It dispenses with the 3D but nobody will miss it and the

Smallest and lightest "XL" handheld yet ; Feels great in the hand ; Cartridge slot now has a flap to keep games and microSD card safe ; Two nice colour schemes

No 3D (but even that's not necessarily a bad thing) ; Stylus is much shorter and a little unwieldy

That’s actually the only downside to the new console we can see; who is it really aimed at?

New Nintendo 2DS XL review

3D is out, 2D is in

Beautiful design ; Huge game selection available ; Terrific price point ; Comes with a charger

Battery life is still underwhelming ; Low-res screen looks ancient compared to the Switch

The New Nintendo 2DS XL might feel unnecessary in a post-Switch world, but there's no denying that its huge back-catalogue of classic games will keep the updated handheld relevant for the foreseeable future. It's also got a hugely attractive price...

Nintendo begins Black Friday with an excellent 2DS XL deal

£129.99 with three games is hard to argue with

In Metacritic score from best to worst, you can have: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (86%), Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (82%), Bravely Second: End Layer (81%), Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros (76%) Zelda Tri Force Heroes (73%), Code Name: Stream...

New Nintendo 2DS XL Review: The perfect 3DS?

New Nintendo 2DS XL review: The New Nintendo 2DS XL looks like the most balanced member of the 3DS family to date.

Huge game library ; Attractive design ; Affordable

Bigger battery would have been appreciated ; Lacklustre displays

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a stylish refinement on a now well-established formula and whilst stereoscopic 3D is an appreciated feature, this console proves that it’s by no means essential..

New Nintendo 2DS XL review

The 2DS XL is Nintendo's latest iteration on the long-running 3DS family - and we think it might be the best yet. Here's our review of the New Nintendo 2DS XL.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL could easily have been superfluous, but instead Nintendo has put together something pretty special. The firm has combined the best bits of its existing handhelds and made various improvements to create a really desirable bit of...

New Nintendo 2DS XL review: A welcome late addition to Nintendo’s handheld family

An excellent low-price welcome to the world of Nintendo's handheld gaming family

Bigger, better version of the dated Nintendo 2DS ; Great build quality with some smart refinements over the New 3DS XL ; Excellent value and great entry point for DS newcomers

Short and stubby stylus ; Interface is dated and clunky ; Not enough new features to warrant an upgrade for New 3DS owners

If you already own a 3DS, I wouldn’t bother rushing out to pick up a New 2DS XL, but if you’re late to the party and want to hop aboard the DS bandwagon, this is the handheld to get. It may have its own little niggles – and its black-and-turquoise and...

New Nintendo 2DS XL review: Nintendo’s newest handheld is absolutely sublime

The New Nintendo 2DS XL highlights the strengths of Nintendo's handheld offering

If you’re already the happy owner of a New Nintendo 3DS or New 3DS XL, the New Nintendo 2DS XL isn’t worth your time.

Nintendo’s New 2DS XL is the closest you’ll ever get to a ‘3DS XL Lite’

The New Nintendo 2DS XL isn't the best portable gaming console in the 3DS family, but if you don't care about the handheld's namesake stereoscopic effect or mind having a slightly shorter battery life, it's a great way to play Nintendo's excellent...

Plays every 3DS game on the market ; More comfortable controls than previous model ; Easy access to external storage

Shorter battery life than the New 3DS XL ; Uncomfortably short stylus ; Speakers are just okay
