Brainwavz HM100 review: these are giant closed-back headphones for those not afraid of sharp treble and glancing looks

Large soundstage ; Somewhat neutral tone

Sharp treble ; Slight lack of mid texture in some areas

Giant closed-back headphones for those who aren't afraid of sharp treble

Brainwavz HM100 review: Oversized and overpriced

These retro over-ear headphones are neither the best sounding nor the most practical

Stylish design ; One size fits all ; Wide soundstage

Not the most portable ; Lack punch in the sub-bass ; Wide soundstage not for everyone

However, if soundstage isn’t a priority for you, there are other headphones whose sound signature we’re much more fond of, such as the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. They look better and fold up much smaller, too.

Brainwavz HM100 headphones review: flattering to deceive

Cheap headphones that feel cheap.

Clear, wide sound ; Comfortable despite their bulk ; Carrying case and spare pads included

Treble is too energetic, leading to a chilly sound signature ; Dubious construction quality ; Huge cans that don’t collapse down

The Brainwavz HM100s are an example of a product that’s designed to check off too many boxes and, as a result, doesn’t adequately fill any of them.
