Shure SE102 Noise Isolating Earphones

Shure revamps its entry level offering and gives the competition a good thrashing in the process.

Shure was never likely to disappoint us with its new entry-level earphone offering and such an expectation was more than justified. Summing up the Shure SE102s in a single sentence is ridiculously easy. If you have £70 to spend on some earphones, buy...

Shure SE102 earphones review

Looking for an alternative to those crappy plastic earphones you get with the iPod?

Good sound quality for the money ; Modular cable design ; Isolation sleeves cut out 90 per cent of ambient sounds

Not as good as other models ; Can sound harsh ; Bulky MicroSpeaker housing

A big step-up from the earphones that come bundled with most MP3 players, the SE102s are capable of producing a surprisingly decent sound. True audiophiles will quickly want to upgrade, however.

Shure SE102 review

Shure's SE102 sound-isolating earphones look unusually bulbous. Unless you're exceedingly self-conscious, though, they're worth putting up with, as their rubber sleeves seal off your ear canal to block out unwanted noise.

Shure SE102 review

Shure isn't a name that's bandied about lightly. The audio brand is synonymous with professional musicianship - Shure even supplies the audio setup at legendary jazz joint Ronnie Scott's.

These Shure earphones are better than the standard ones you get with budget music players, but if you've bought a quality MP3 player from Sony or Philips, you're likely to have some half-decent earphones as part of the package and these don't add much...

Shure SE102 MPA review

Purists might not like it, but mobile phones and MP3 players are converging at a record pace. Even reputable professional audio companies are starting to take notice, as evidenced by Shure's latest personal earphone offering, the SE102 MPA. The $99...

The Shure SE102 MPA Sound Isolating Earphones come with a music phone adapter cable that includes an inline mic. Audio quality is generally good for both calls and music, and the cords seem durable.

The Shure SE102 earphones don't come with as many eartips as others in the line; not all users will be able to get a secure and comfortable fit.

The Shure SE102 MPA Sound Isolating Earphones are definitely a step-up from the headset that came with your music phone, but not everyone will find them comfortable.

Shure SE102

Shure has an excellent pedigree when it comes to professional audio kit such as stage mics and in-ear monitors. And its personal earphones for iPods and other devices have never lacked anything when it comes to audio fidelity. Until last year, however,...

Perhaps the most pleasing feature of the SE102 is the price. At 52.99, they are very good value and make an ideal replacement for the earphones that came with your iPod

Shure SE102

Same as the previously renound EC2 model. Excellent balanced sound. Superb price. 2 year guarantee. Wicked passive sound isolation means it won't drain your battery, doesn't need to be pushed to volumewise for enjoyable sound and won't bother fellow...

This updated version of the older model doesn't come with as good a case and choice of ear plugs. The older one had three sizes of foam, rubber and silicon ones.
