Sol Republic Tracks Headphones (Black) review

We test a lot of headphones here at CNET, and the good ones tend to set you back more than $100. But a new headphone company, Sol Republic, is hoping to change that with a line of headphones that deliver very good sound and durability for a more...

The Sol Republic Tracks headphones are light, fairly comfortable, and sport a durable design with a convenient interchangeable headband, detachable cordage, and an integrated microphone and remote control. They sound good, delivering deep bass, and are...

The sound isn't terribly detailed, and the on-ear-design can rub certain ears the wrong way.

If you're looking for Monster Beats-style sound at a more affordable price, the Sol Republic Tracks should be on your short list.

SOL Republic Tracks

The affordable SOL Republic Tracks out-competes plenty of more expensive headphones that specialize in bass performance, but it's not a comfortable headphone pair.

Excellent audio output and bass response for this price range. Detachable cable means cable can replaced if it falters. Attractive design. Built-in iPhone/iPod/iPad controls.

Can be uncomfortable for long listening periods. Headband design can make properly adjusting earcups tricky.

SOL Republic Tracks Headphones Review

The SOL Republic Tracks headphones were the brainchild of Kevin Lee, son of Monster Cable founder Noel Lee. He started the company, with blessings from Monster Cable and with Scott Hix and Seth Combs.

Incredibly low and tactile bass ; Unique styling ; Interchangeable headband

Muted highs ; Muddied mids ; Hit or miss design

Sol Republic Tracks Headphone Review

Money can't buy you love, but 100 bucks will buy you a better set of headphones than we would have thought possible before we strapped Sol Republic's Tracks to our noggin.

Rubbery cable makes noise when dragged over clothing; glossy finish shows fingerprints

Sol Republic Tracks Headphones Review

Sol Republic is the brainchild of Kevin Lee formally of Monster Cable, who is no stranger when it comes to developing audio products, as well as Seth Combs who has been living and breathing the music and audio industry for years. Whether it be in PR...

Very comfortable to wear. Sound reproduced is warm, inviting and balanced. Headphones are nearly indestructible. Good price point

Audio cable needs to be connected to both ear cups on the headphones – and I'm a single cable kind of gal. Sound quality tends to degrade a bit when the volume is pushed to its limits

The Sol Republic Tracks are easy on the ears, the eyes, and easy on the wallet. What more could you ask for? It offers those consumers who have been slaves to the white earbuds the freedom to move on to an affordable, fashionable, and basically...
