Sony MDR-NC22

Sony offers the MDR-NC22, an in-ear and less expensive alternative to Bose's reigning noise-cancellation champs.

Decent noise cancellation. Good sound quality for the price. Nice, deep bass without overwhelming frequency balance. Excellent, firm fit. "Monitor" feature mutes audio and noise cancellation for conversation.

Active noise cancellation gets rid of most ambient sound but creates a bit of hiss. The included clip is annoying but necessary for bulky noise-cancellation circuitry.

Sony MDR-NC22 Noise cancelling earphones

These earphones promise to cut you off from the real world, let us see if they really do.

Good overall sound quality, comfortable, airplane adapter, 1.5m long cord

Noise cancellation is not always effective, bulky battery compartment, no volume control

Really does block out background sound

the cable is way too long. I think it is 1.5m. That is unnecessarily long.

Sony MDR-NC22

I can't verify the claimed percentage noise reduction, but subjectively it's very good. Sound quality is as good as I expected, although I've noticed the hum reported by others when the SR is switched on in quiet environments, I haven't found this to...

Changing the earpieces is fiddly and you have to be careful when removing them from your ears as the neoprene bits come off rather easily and are ridiculously expensive to replace.
