Review: MacAlly iKeySlim

As the Mac mini does not come with a keyboard or mouse, many companies are offering products to fill this gap rather than letting you give Apple your money. MacAlly has taken the laptop-keys-on-a-regular-keyboard design of the iceKey, dropped the...

Inexpensive, competent keyboard, Mac-specific keys, USB hub in the back (2 ports)

Keys a bit mushy

The iKeySlim takes the basic design of the iceKey, but sells for a fraction of the price.

Macally IKEY5COMBO

Good touch and feel. Clean lines and 2 USB points.

None.

Good, except for readability of several characters

The white keyboard works well mecahnically, but several characters are difficult to read. Thickening of the characters in question can be corrected by the use of a very fine tiped permanent marker pen, then the keyboard works well, especially since it...

Good Keyboard

Good if you just need a cheap keyboard, but I would pay a little more for something better.

Works fine, keys feel great to type on.

The USB ports don't supply enough power to many devices, and sometimes they start acting like USB 1.1 ports. Also sometimes OSX needs to re-detect the keyboard.

macally iKey Slim Model IKEY5 - Retail

Is marketed for MACs but it looks just like any other cheapo PC keyboard, and I doubt it has any added functionality.

It is a somewhat slim usb keyboard with 2 ports.

Cheap. It is slim, but has nearly a 1"" boarder going around the sides. The 2 USB ports come out the back towards the right hand side which IMHO is not ideal. The keys don't feel right in a cheap sort of way.

SWEET for the price!

A more natural feeling layout for the volume controls would be nice... Otherwise it's great!

Keys are fast, you can feel them click under your fingers and it's thin... Also has places to plug in additional USB devices... This was a MUST for me because I use a wired mouse (logitech)

keys can feel a bit ""wobbly"", and I think the volume/eject buttons are in a strange place but they get the job done.

Wired Keyboard and Mouse combo

Keyboard and mouse both worked as soon as I plugged them in. I havea MacBookPro. I had a wireless keyboard, but after shutting down the compter it would take 5 to 10 minuates to get paired. With this keyboard, as soon as the computer comes on and loads...

Good but not perfect

There is no Insert key....because of the Bluetooth key.

Works great!

The wireless mouse and keypad that came with my Mac OS X were a joke. They kept malfunctioning. I bought this Macally mouse and keyboard several years ago and they've worked well since, w/o any problem. They cost much less than replacing the wireless....

mixed bag

This is not a bad device, but I cannot find the instructions and there does not seem to be any way to get a copy on the web site or to actually contact the company at all. It would be hard to buy something else from someone who cannot be contacted.
