ROCCAT Horde AIMO review: can this hybrid membrane-mechanical keyboard deliver the best of both worlds?

T3 discovers whether this truly is a fully equipped gaming keyboard package

Quiet typing ; Very spacious layout ; Reprogrammable keys ; Attachable wrist rest ; Sturdy, slip-free stance

Lightning intensity is weak ; Plastic chassis doesn't feel very premium ; Design is slightly dated

ROCCAT Horde AIMO Review

Mechanical keyboards are swallowing the market at an alarming rate, but is there still a place for a high-end membrane keyboard with RGB lighting?...

Roccat Horde Aimo review: This 'membranical' gaming keyboard explores new territory

The Roccat Horde Aimo is a very forward-thinking device, with support for Microsoft's Surface Dial tech and LEDs that adjust themselves, but its membrane underpinnings and some awkward design choices hold it back.

"Tuning Wheel" supports Microsoft's Surface Dial functionality ; Quieter than a true mechanical keyboard

"Membranical" keys aren't satisfying to type on ; Lighting is uneven, dim ; Tuning Wheel placement is awkward

I like keyboards like the Roccat Horde Aimo, insofar as I like reviewing keyboards that something new. And the Horde Aimo tries a of new things—membranical keys, Tuning Wheel, Aimo lighting.

Roccat Horde AIMO

The Roccat Horde AIMO is an inexpensive gaming keyboard that offers some great features for the price, but it has a tough time standing up to its competition.

11 dedicated media keys. Unique tuning wheel. Reduced ghosting. Budget Price.

Dim backlighting. Wrist rest feels flimsy. No USB pass-through.

Bottom Line: The Roccat Horde AIMO is an inexpensive gaming keyboard that offers some great features for the price, but it has a tough time standing up to its competition.

Roccat Horde AIMO Review

The Roccat Horde Aimo is an exciting gaming keyboard that tries to mix membrane keys with mechanical design. And, beyond that, this unit has loads of innovative features – and dozens of RGB LEDs. At £81 / $90 , though, it's an expensive bit of kit. Can...

Our Roccat Horde Aimo review shows that this keyboard is packed with features, but in many areas it doesn’t quite live up to its impressive billing – and its £81/$90 price.

Roccat Horde Aimo Review: Membranical Misfire

The Roccat Horde Aimo has good in-game performance, which is definitely the most important aspect of a gaming keyboard. Beyond that, though, there's not much to recommend. It's overpriced; it's unattractive; and it's simply not as good as mechanical...

Good typing and game performance ; Reprogrammable keys ; Intuitive software

"Membranical" keys don't feel that good ; Overpriced ; Dim lighting

Nearly every one of the Roccat Horde Aimo's features comes with a caveat, from half-baked hybrid keys to dim RGB lighting.
