Acer Aspire 5742 review

The 2.5GHz Intel Core i3-370M processor is second only to the Medion Akoya P6624's Core i5-460M in terms of clock speed. This helps the Acer Aspire 5742 to achieve a highly creditable 102 points in WorldBench 6, beating all but the aforementioned...

Overall the Acer Aspire 5742 is an excellent budget laptop with good performance and battery life.

Acer Aspire AS5742-7645

The Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 laptop delivers excellent bang for your budget buck and a long-running battery. But, it comes packed inside a boring, somewhat flimsy chassis.

Strong performance for the price. Great battery life. Big hard drive. Two-year warranty.

Plain design. Plastic chassis feels thin and cheap. Sub-par keyboard. Trial apps and offers litter the hard drive.

Acer Aspire AS5742Z-4097

The Acer Aspire AS5742Z-4097 laptop covers the basics by supplying a dual-core CPU, a roomy 15.6-inch display, and a Webcam, while providing two years of coverage.

Dual-core processor offers competitive performance for the price. HDMI port. Two-year warranty.

Similar, and only slightly pricier, Acer model offers much better performance and battery life. Flimsy plastic chassis. So-so battery life. Trial apps litter the hard drive.

Acer Aspire 5742-6811cl

The 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 1,366 by 768, which is standard issue for a budget-class laptop. The screen is bright and delivers bold colors, but there is a hint of color shifting when viewed from a side angle. The full-size keyboard has...

Acer Aspire AS5742-6475

The 15.6-inch widescreen is spacious and easy on the eyes. Its 1,366-by-768 resolution is as high as a budget laptop will go, but it's more than adequate for office work and media consumption. The keyboard is made up of large, island-style keys that,...

Fast Core i3 processor. Great battery life. Big hard drive and HDMI port. Very affordable. Lightest in its class

Design is bland

With excellent speeds, ample features, and good battery life, the Acer Aspire AS5742-6475 can be that primary laptop for a computer novice or secondary one for the family.

Laptop Review: Acer Aspire 5742G
