Acer Chromebook R11 review

A Chromebook's job is difficult. It has to be inexpensive, which inevitably means you can't expect too much. But it also needs to stand out in a market that's crowded by dirt cheap competition.

Acer's Chromebook R 11 is an inexpensive tablet-laptop hybrid, coupling the simplicity of Google's Chrome OS with a 360-degree hinge and touchscreen.

Unfortunately, Chrome OS isn't optimized for touch, and navigating around the browser with your finger can be tricky. There aren't as many apps available for Google's Chrome OS as you'll find on Microsoft's Windows or Apple's OS X.

Acer's Chromebook R 11 has a neat hybrid design and the price is right, but simpler, non-touch devices offer better value.

The Acer Chromebook R11 is a great cheap laptop that converts into at tablet, even if it does have some compromises.

Perfect form factor for almost everything ; Excellent keyboard and trackpad ; Great low price

Mediocre display ; A slowpoke when pushed hard ; Heavier than a lot of 13-inch Ultrabooks ; No real customization options

Even with its fair share of compromises, the Acer Chromebook R11 is a great laptop and tablet hybrid on the cheap.

With solid build quality, a versatile convertible design, an IPS touch screen, full-size media ports, and strong performance, the Acer Chromebook R 11 still manages a very affordable price.

Nice price. Sturdy, convertible design. Intel Celeron processor and 4GB of memory provide speedy performance. Full-size ports. 32GB solid-state drive (SSD). Long battery life.
