ASUS M51SE notebook

Asus may be best known at this time for introducing the Netbook to the world but it's main line of notebooks are aimed at the more power-hungry sector of the market. The Asus M51SE is a stunning notebook for the price. We found it loaded and ran...

Great price, powerful spec, well built

Poor battery life, basic screen

The Asus M51SE is a stunning notebook for the price. We found it loaded and ran quickly and the large keyboard means you can type in comfort. While battery life is less than ideal, the sheer raw power of this notebook makes it ideal for anyone needing...

Asus' M51SE offers great value for money and lots of power, but battery life is poor

Decent performance ; Excellent usability

Below-average battery life

Conservative styling and a solid performer, but let down by poor battery life

ASUS M51VA-AS045G

A good all-purpose notebook that falls short of greatness

Excellent variety of connections

No Blu-ray, dim screen, no Gigabit Ethernet, low battery-life

The ASUS M51VA-AS045G is mid-range laptop with a fantastic array of connections and strong processing performance. Unfortunately the screen’s default dimness may prove annoying for novice users and the lack of Gigabit Ethernet at this price point is...

ASUS M70 review: ASUS M70

ASUS M70

Upscale, CE-like design; full HD-resolution screen with handy automatic display settings; Blu-ray drive and 1TB of storage; multimode touch pad; full complement of ports and connections; decent battery life.

Large and heavy; 32-bit OS leaves 1GB of RAM sitting dormant; midrange GPU does not offer top-notch gaming performance; doesn't ship with a Media Center remote.

You can find Blu-ray-equipped desktop replacements for less, but no other media laptop currently offers as many features for the price as the Asus M70.

Asus M51 Review

The M51 lid uses a latch to hold it closed, but the hinge mechanism works well and firmly holds the lid in place. There is almost no flex to the screen. Weighing in at more than six and a half pounds with the battery, the M51 does feel a little thicker...

Nice built-in speakers ; Convenient power management ; Solid dedicated graphics performance ; Excellent webcam design ; DVI port for external display ; Good value for light gaming

Poor battery performance ; Bad touchpad and touchpad buttons ; Too much keyboard flex ; A little heavy compared to competition ; Display not very "HD" despite "HD Vision" sticker ; No dedicated media buttons

The Asus M51 is a nice consumer notebook with good performance, decent port selection, and a solid graphics card option for gaming. Asus has clearly risen to the challenge of creating an attractive general use laptop in an attempt to attract a wide...
