It's entertainment heaven, with this surprisingly good-looking Blu-ray laptop. But can you justify the price?

Great connectivity ; Surprisingly lightweight ; Fantastic performer

Annoying additional apps ; Unsatisfying keyboard ; You might want something cheaper

The N50V certainly satisfies performance wise but we'd consider it over priced

Asus's N50V is an attractive 15.4in laptop, and the only one in this price group to have a built-in Blu-ray drive.

Asus N50 15in laptop

 

The N50Vc offers a decent amount of grunt and some extras like Blu-ray, but it's let down by its low res screen and price.

Asus has come up with a nice-looking notebook, of that there's no doubt. But unless you're desperate for the frills - ionizer, Blu-ray drive, separate numeric keypad - you can buy a machine that's just as good a performer for less.

ASUS N50Vn-B1B

 

The ASUS N50n-B1B is an all-purpose desktop replacement laptop that has something for your entire family.

Good price point. HDMI-out and eSATA ports. Very 3D-friendly Nvidia graphics card. Good choice for a processor. 4GB of memory. Numeric keypad included.

Mouse buttons click loudly. An extended battery option is needed.

It's fast. VERY fast. Staggeringly fast. But then, I had gotten used to a four-year-old desktop of mediocre specification. Photoshop is rougly 5.5 times as quick in the heavy-duty work.
