Asus N53JF-XE1

The Asus N53JF-XE1 bundles almost everything you could want in a desktop replacement laptop, but it needs a bigger battery.

1080p screen resolution. Top-of-the-line Nvidia graphics chip. Sleek aluminum top. Includes USB 3.0 and eSATA ports. Great performance scores. Optimus-enabled. Great speaker system.

No extended battery option. Keyboard isn't backlit. Underwhelming battery scores.

ASUS N53JF Review

The market for 15-inch laptops might be pretty packed, but the ASUS N53JF-XE1 with its powerful Intel Core i5 processor and Nvidia GeForce GT 425M graphics packs more punch than the competition. Did we mention it also has a 1080p screen? Read our...

Excellent performance ; Good speakers ; Impressive 1080p screen

Too much keyboard flex ; No separation in touchpad keys ; Unimpressive battery life ; The ASUS N35JF-XE1 is a powerful 15-inch notebook that delivers good value with a sub-par keyboard and weak battery life.

Big size and big performance

I updated to the latest BIOS, installed a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 8GB A-DATA 1333 RAM, and a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP1. I bought it open box and saved a bunch. There are a couple of scratches, but everything works fine. Make the recovery...

Great performance for the price. The Bclk on mine came set to 140 so the CPU is overclocked to 480M speed at 2.66GHz (2.94 turbo). The GPU overclocks to 650 with no problem giving 435M performance. Doesn't overheat even at these settings. Screen is...

Too much software installed from the factory. Asus doesn't update the drivers on its web page often. You're better off going to the chip makers' sites directly. Battery is small. A 9 cell would be nice. Laptop is bigger and heavier than a standard 15...

Manufacturing defect out of the box

Lesson learned: Unbox, inspect and use your purchased item before the 30-day return policy of newegg expires.

Nice feature set for the price

Bought this notebook on 12/16/2010 and just got around to unboxing it on 3/09/2011 because I was out of town. After I opened the lid I noticed this glaring manufacturing defect between the touchpad and the keyboard. The brushed metal applique that is...

Great Buy!

I highly recomend that any buyer of this laptop reinstalls Windows 7 using the serial on the underside of the laptop and the provided driver disc. The laptop doesn't have an isolation keyboard like other ASUS laptops but it still a nice laptop.

The Hardware in general is pretty great and the metal exterior and palm wrest looks nice ; The laptop has a nice, bright 1920x1080 resolution display that looks great when playing Blu-ray movies. There is a nice full keyboard with the numerical pad,...

The battery life depends greatly on your power settings in the Power4Gear application. When browsing the web with the Nvidia graphics inactive I get about three and a half hours. When you start doing more resourse intense tasks the Core i5 starts using...

awesome

love it i got it on sale for less than a grand but it's still a good deal at the list price. asus scores another one.

1080p screen res. overall lightweight, sleek design, audio sys for laptop, super fast, very quick start up time (~50 secs) super responsive track pad

short battery life, but almost everywhere i go there's someplace to plug in so it's not that big a deal

Nice laptop, good price

Put in 8GB of RAM and able to dual boot to a demo Windows Server 2008 R2 VHD and still perform well. Watch out as the D: drive defaults to being compressed.

Good performing laptop for the price. Nice screen and 7,200 RPM hard drive

Default installation contains lots of unwanted/useless apps. Windows 7 locked up during Windows Update. Ended up turning off automatic updates. Touch pad can be a too sensitive even after adjusting all the way down

horrible slow service

don't buy this junk for the service agmt unless ur a total putz. parts list with prices is on Assus website. save urself some $$$. my 90 yr old mother could prolly repair it faster & cheaper than Assus service dept. hats off to Yu & Roedel! Assus...

it's a great buy if you don't mind booting your new laptop off a flash drive for a few months. great service from Assus service dept - 2 Chinese guys working out of a garage in Freemont. another pro - you get to ship bad parts to them at your own...

got a bit suspicious after my warranty card (promoting an extra 1 yr ADS if submitted in 60 days) was returned address undeliverable. NO WORRIES! spent 2 hours making recovery disks with the Assus backup util, only to find the disks, as well as the F9...

Very Good Laptop for the Price

Overall, it's a great laptop for this price. I was very happy with Newegg for shipping and overall services.

The best thing about this laptop is the screen resolution. It's great as it gives you more screen space, and everything is very crisp and sharp ; Very quiet if you are not using the Blu-ray drive ; The frame, keyboard, and the general hardware is very...

Lots of junkware pre-installed. The first thing I did was to do a complete re-install of Windows ; The Blu-ray drive can get a bit loud. But I don't plan to use it very often ; The general frame is a little bit bigger than the average 15.6" laptop. But...

Asus N53JF

For the price, this is an excellent package. If this is in close to the high end of your price interval and meets the laptop size you're seeking, then you've found your next laptop purchase.

1080p, Blu-ray, NVIDIA Optimus seamlessly switches between integrated graphics using the CPU and the integrated NVIDIA GPU with 1gb on board memory (plays WOW on medium to high graphics at 45+ fps), speaking by Bang & Olufsen are great (yet to hear...

ASUS software sucks, uninstalled all the software contents outside of Windows 7. Media keys worked only one time and are no longer functioning. Couldn't find the drivers responsible for their use and no knowledgeable forums online to help me. Also had...
