Is this Asus Zenbook more than just another laptop?

Good overall performance ; Good-quality sound ; Excellent trackpad and gesture software

Comparatively expensive ; SSDs are slow ; Screen resolution produces tiny text

The Zenbook UX301LA performs well, with good sound quality and a very reasonable battery life. However, it's quite underwhelming overall, with a high price and a fairly bland design.

The first Zenbook models matched the Air's silver aluminium chassis as well, but with the UX301LA, the Zenbook now comes in dark blue plastic, with a Gorilla Glass coating over the lid, that's particularly glossy. It looks stylish when first removed...

Asus gives the Zenbook UX301 a higher-res touch screen

 

A premium MacBook alternative with nearly every high-end spec imaginable.

The Asus Zenbook UX301 packs in a lot, including a better-than-HD touch screen, big 256GB SSD, and Core i7 processor, in a slim, smart design.

It costs more than most comparable better-then-HD laptops, including the Retina MacBook Pro. The Zenbook doesn't feel as rugged as its price warrants, and its battery life is unimpressive.

Asus was one of the first PC makers to go ultra-thin with its Zenbook line. That latest UX301 version packs in nearly every high-end spec you'd want, but it's priced out of reach for most, and lacks an all-day battery.
