Dell Inspiron 14z (2011/2012)

The cheaper, chunkier cousin to the XPS 14z offers a brushed aluminium lid in two different colours and some decent specs without breaking the bank. But is it any good?

Decent value for the specs, Brushed metal lid and keyboard surround, Nice typing experience, Good connectivity

Mediocre screen, Connections awkwardly recessed, Stiff touchpad buttons, Somewhat noisy under load

Dell Inspiron 14z (mid 2013 N00I1431) review

It's a shame that Dell is probably going to abandon the consumer market in order to focus on big business accounts, as it's produced some very attractive and affordable budget laptops in recent years. The Inspiron 14z is a good example – slim and...

The Inspiron 14z does a really good job of cramming a fully featured laptop into a compact, lightweight design. It's no gaming rig, but its good performance and battery life make it an attractive option for anyone on a tight budget.

Dell Inspiron 14Z 2012 review

Our review model Inspiron 14z, priced at £699, carries a third-generation Intel i5-3317U processor, 8GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon HD 7570M graphics card, a 500GB hard drive spinning at 5400rpm, a tray-loading DVD-RW drive, built-in Wi-FI 802.11a/b/g/n and...

Dell Inspiron 14z review

With its svelte metallic chassis and compact dimensions, the Dell Inspiron 14z is a far cry from the company's previous all-purpose laptops. Taking a design cue from its redesigned XPS range - such as the Dell XPS 14z - which itself is based heavily on...

It isn't the cheapest version of the 14z, but battery life is excellent, as is performance

Dell Inspiron 14Z 2011 review

The Dell Inspiron 14z isn't part of the peacock crowd that flaunt themselves with bright designs but rather offers a sleek, aluminium design packed with decent specs.

Sturdy aluminium shell; Bright, clear screen; Decent performance.

Awful trackpad keys; USB ports covered by annoying flap; Poor performance for gaming.

The Dell Inspiron 14z offers decent performance in an attractive and sturdy aluminium body. It has a few annoyances, but it's a good choice for computing on the move.

Dell Inspiron 14z review (late 2011)

I wanted to like the Dell Inspiron 14z when I first opened the laptop's lid. Alas, love at first sight faded to “let's just be friends” in short order. The Inspiron 14z - Dell sent us a "special edition" unit for testing - has a lot to like, but a few...

Overall, the Inspiron 14z is a light, attractive laptop that's easy to lug around and offers good performance for its sale price. However, strange ergonomic choices make this a less than an ideal unit, particularly if you're a touch-typist.

The Dell Inspiron 14z review

A small, sleek portable, the Dell Inspiron 14z mainly looks good and has a very long battery life. There's nothing wrong with it, as long as you know exactly what you're getting.

Dell has aimed the Dell Inspiron 14z squarely at users who are more concerned with flash than substance, and who consider a 7-hour battery life to be a core quality for a laptop. Students are an obvious demographic here, and they should be able to get...

Quick Review - Dell Inspiron 14z

In short, the Inspiron 14z is certainly a capable and competent Windows 8 ultrabook. It has a RRP of R11 000.

Dell Inspiron 14z review

The Dell Inspiron 14z Ultrabook is actually a thin, light, general-purpose laptop with Ultrabook aspirations and an optical drive. Thanks to its Ivy Bridge processor, discrete graphics card, and 8GB of RAM, the Inspiron 14z delivers respectable...
