Dell XPS 17 L702X review

The Dell XPS 17 L702X is a reasonably smart-looking desktop replacement model that wouldn't look out of place as a workstation, with a large, backlit keyboard with good-sized keys and a numeric keypad to the right. However, it's multimedia content that...

The Dell XPS 17 L702X comes in at a fairly competitive price, though it still comes up short in key areas. 500GB seems small for a £1000-plus laptop and although the screen is very good the 3D capabilities are of limited appeal. But the design flaws of...

Dell XPS 17 3D review

The Dell XPS 17 3D reviewed here ships with an Intel Core i7 2820QM clocking in at 2.30GHz but capable of pushing to a full 3.4GHz in Turbo Boost mode. This is one of Intel's latest quad-core processors built on the new Sandy Bridge architecture's 32nm...

Weighing 3.36kg with the power brick, and measuring nearly 40mm thick in places, this is no HP Envy 17. Still, if you're looking for a capable, premium desktop replacement that can do everything, the Dell XPS 17 3D fits the bill.

Dell XPS 17 review

Dell's latest version of its long-running premium Dell XPS 17 notebook features a revamped look, a quad-core CPU, and discrete nVidia mobile graphics. The net result is a laptop system that offers average performance in WorldBench 6, but surprisingly...

Overall, the latest edition of the Dell XPS 17 is a chip off the old block. None of the individual components stand out, and, on the surface, performance isn't something to write home about either, compared with other systems in this class. But the...

Dell XPS 17 review

Dell reserves the XPS brand for its high-end systems, which are a cut above anything else the company sells. The entire XPS laptop range has recently undergone a complete design overhaul, and the XPS 17 is the first model we've seen in the new design....

Dell XPS 17 3D review

Overall, the Dell XPS 17 3D offers superb performance in standard desktop apps. Gaming performance is pretty good, too, though you'll want to scale back the resolution a bit and dial down the graphics features for best results, particularly in newer...

Dell XPS 17 (1710X) notebook

The Dell XPS 17 (1710X) is a desktop replacement notebook that's primed for use as a gaming laptop, a media centre or a mobile workstation -- the best...

Well priced, plenty of RAM and storage capacity, excellent for multitasking, good graphics card, suitable for gaming, USB 3.0, up to 16GB of RAM

Lacks an expansion slot, gets very warm when the graphics card is in use, no remote control

There's no doubt the Dell XPS 17 (1710X) is a great desktop replacement notebook. It has lots of power and storage capacity, modern connectivity and it even includes a touchscreen. You can use it as a gaming machine, a media centre or just for boring...

Dell XPS 17 3D review: Dell XPS 17 3D

Dell XPS 17 3D

The ; is a sharp-looking desktop replacement that can handle 3D content, as well as output 3D movies and games to a compatible 3DTV. Highly configurable, the more-expensive options are powerful indeed.

Some wonky stereoscopic 3D issues make this less plug-and-play than a 3DTV, and the 17-inch version of the XPS has not gotten the same slim makeover the 15-inch version has.

Dell's XPS 17 3D is for those who want a powerful media and gaming 17-inch laptop, but in a more aesthetically upscale package than offered by Dell's Alienware brand. The stereoscopic 3D is gimmicky, but a certain breed of PC gamer will love it.
