HP Spectre XT TouchSmart review

HP's mammoth machine is something of an ultra-ultrabook

Attractive appearance ; Clever audio design ; Incredible screen ; 1080p resolution ; Fully touch enabled

Heavy for an ultrabook ; Enormous for an ultrabook ; Irritating touchpad ; Slightly lacking power

Where is the balancing point for laptops? Where does the touchscreen and brushed aluminium finish start to outweigh the need for unbridled power and portability?

HP SpectreXT TouchSmart 15-4010nr review - good-looking laptop lacks true Ultrabook power

The Spectre XT TouchSmart still (barely) meets Ultrabook standards. It's under 0.9-inch thick, it's got an Intel Core i7 processor and an SSD boot drive, and so on. But it weighs in at 2.24kg, to be precise, which is significantly heavier than a...

With a large and lovely touchscreen display and eye-catching, brushed-aluminum design, we really wanted to love the HP SpectreXT TouchSmart 15-4010nr. Unfortunately the terrible battery life and poor audio let it down. And because the HP SpectreXT...

HP Spectre XT Touchsmart

HP's Spectre XT Touchsmart laptop has a Full HD touchscreen, a slim, metal body and plenty of power, but demands £1,000 in return.

Full HD display; Responsive touch-enabled screen; Sturdy metal design.

Expensive; Screen is a little dim.

The HP Spectre XT Touchsmart boasts a slim, metal body, a decent serving of power and a Full HD touch-enabled screen for swiping around Windows 8. It's let down by its high price, but you still get quite a bit for the money.

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4000ea review

HP's Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4000ea is certainly an attractive and well-built laptop. However, it does stretch even Intel's vague definition of the term ‘Ultrabook' to the limit. And beyond.

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook

The HP Spectre XT TouchSmart is the bigger and beefier brother of the non-touch, 13-inch laptop of the same name that steps up the gorgeous all-metal design to 15-inches and includes a 10-point touch screen. Is this enough to make you splash the cash...

HP has crafted a beautiful laptop, with a gorgeous, responsive 1080p touchscreen that's let down by its trackpad, battery life and enormous price. If you're not looking to do any major gaming, or you won't be too far away from a power outlet, then HP's...

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart review: all that, minus the battery life

We had plenty of nice things to say about the HP Envy Spectre XT when we reviewed it last year, but we were already looking ahead to the HP Spectre XT

Brilliant IPS display ; Sophisticated, well-built design ; Good keyboard

Short battery life ; Expensive

The HP Spectre XT TouchSmart boasts a great, 15-inch touchscreen and a comfortable, svelte design. The downsides are disappointing battery life and a high starting price.

Review: HP Spectre XT TouchSmart is a sweet-looking, underpowered laptop in an Ultrabook’s clothing

The brushed-aluminum look screams Ultrabook, and the bigger display is a nice bonus. But the weight, performance, and battery life make it better suited for living-room laptop duty.

Large and lovely touchscreen display ; Eye-catching, brushed-aluminum design

Terrible battery life ; Poor-sounding speakers ; Heavy for its size

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15-4010nr

The HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15-4010nr has something most Windows PCs lack: a Thunderbolt port.

One of the first Windows PCs with Thunderbolt. Has more storage space than SSD-only units. Full size HDMI and Ethernet. Good multimedia benchmark scores. Comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. Two years of Norton Internet Security.

USB 3.0 ports are black. Middling battery life.

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook Review

As we saw last week with Mythlogic's Callisto 1512, ultrabooks in the 15.6" form factor are strange beasts. It's pretty clear the industry as a whole is moving towards thinner, lighter notebooks at every traditional size; Intel's ULV processors aren't...

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Notebook Review

We have recently spent some time working (and playing) with the HP Spectre XT TouchSmart notebook computer. Specifically, we have been using the 15-4010nr Ultrabook model. This is a Windows 8 machine and it happens to be sporting a 15.6-inch Full HD...

Aside from the HP Spectre XT TouchSmart’s battery life, the overall experience was rather pleasant and comfortable. Not only did the notebook perform well, but it did so looking really nice — both in terms of the exterior casing and the quality of the...
