Budget gaming with some limitations

Affordable ; Unique design ; Acceptable battery life

Disappointing speakers ; Display lacking overall

Users of the Lenovo Legion Y530 will find that it gets the job done for gaming and general use, and that’s about it.

Lenovo Legion Y530 review: Affordable but no-frills gaming laptop

The Lenovo Legion might not be as fancy as some gaming laptops we've tested, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored. Price is its biggest sell.

Understated but stylish design ; High refresh rate screen for the money ; Plenty of output options ; Reasonably quiet under standard use

Gets uncomfortably hot when gaming on the lap ; Performance is average ; Specification options are limited ; Weird numpad layout

The Lenovo Legion might not be as fancy as some gaming laptops we've tested, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored.

Lenovo Legion Y530 Review: An Adult Gaming Laptop with a Dull Display

Finally, a gaming laptop for adults. The Lenovo Legion Y530 ($749.99 to start, $949.99 as tested), isn't the most extravagant machine. It doesn't scream “gamer,” but with its Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, it can still play most games at decent settings....

The Lenovo Legion is a gaming laptop with looks for adults, but its soft keyboard and dull display are disappointing.

Lenovo Legion Y530 review: An affordable gaming laptop saddled with an iffy graphics card

The inexpensive Lenovo Legion Y530 will tempt budget-minded gamers, but its middling graphics card struggles to keep up with today's games, let alone tomorrow's.

Impressive quad-core CPU performance ; Relatively thin and light for a gaming laptop ; Comfy keyboard ; Above-average speakers

Falls short of 60 fps gaming visuals at maxed graphics settings ; Rear-facing ports may frustrate some users ; No memory card reader

Next up is Cinebench, a benchmark that checks how a laptop performs under a brief period of stressful CPU activity—in this case, rendering a 3D image in real time. While our HandBrake benchmark takes about an hour to complete, Cinebench is often over...

Lenovo Legion Y530: Shortlist this entry-level gaming laptop

While its insides match the competition's, the Y530's unique workstation-like design helps make this budget-friendly gamer one to strongly consider.

The Lenovo Legion Y530's delivers on entry-level gaming performance and has a useful design that makes it as good for travel as it is on a desk hooked up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Display is somewhat dim with dull color. Keyboard might be a little too soft for some. Webcam is below the display.

As entry-level gaming laptops go the Lenovo Legion Y530 offers one of the best mixes of performance and design you're going to find at the moment.

Lenovo Legion Y530

Lenovo's Legion Y530 tops today's class of budget gaming laptops with a sleek, distinctive build, alongside solid performance and a full feature set.

Aggressive price. Slim, sturdy build is nice for the money. No garish gamer aesthetic. Super-slim bezels. HD gaming capable. Above-average keyboard.

GTX 1050's performance ceiling with demanding games is limited. Smallish 256GB SSD in this model.

Bottom Line: Lenovo's Legion Y530 tops today's class of budget gaming laptops with a sleek, distinctive build, alongside solid performance and a full feature set.

Awesome audio output Good power/performance ratio

Annoyingly Glossy screen Needs better DVD playback software

With the Lenovo IdeaPad Y530, "You get what you pay for" isn't a bad thing. The Y530 is a good laptop built for anyone who needs to work and to sneak in a little play time on the side. And, for under a thousand bucks, it is a solid counterpoint to...

Awesome audio output ; Good power/performance ratio

Annoyingly Glossy screen ; Needs better DVD playback software

The Y530 isn't going to break any speed records, but for everyday work and rocking out in the off-hours, it's a solid choice.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 review: Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

Simple, subdued design with solid construction; reasonably priced; light-touch media controls; Dolby Home Theater sound with four speakers plus subwoofer; face recognition software; decent battery life.

Overly reflective screen; heavier than similar-size systems.

Though its subdued design may strike some as square, but the midsize Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 delivers a decent media experience for less than $1,000.
