Lenovo ThinkPad E480

Lenovo's 14-inch ThinkPad E480 packs some extra weight and can run noisy, but it delivers a durable metal chassis and competitive performance for a mainstream laptop.

Aluminum chassis. Competitive performance, thanks to eighth-generation Intel Core i5 chip. Respectable battery life. Comfortable keyboard.

Big and heavy for a 14-inch laptop. Cooling fan frequently engages. No support for Thunderbolt 3.

Bottom Line: Lenovo's 14-inch ThinkPad E480 packs some extra weight and can run noisy, but it delivers a durable metal chassis and competitive performance for a mainstream laptop.

Lenovo ThinkPad E480 (i5-8250U, UHD 620, SSD) Laptop Review

Unpretentious workhorse! Having recently reviewed the 2018 ThinkPad equipped with a Radeon RX 550 GPU, we now have the entry-level SKU in our lab. We are particularly interested in temperatures, which were the E480's most pronounced and prominent weak...

stylish and robust case ; excellent keyboard ; decent touchpad, very good trackpoint ; matte IPS panel with decent contrast ratio ; fast processor ; decent battery life ; low power consumption ; pleasantly quiet

slow PCIe NVMe SSD (write) ; MicroSD instead of SD card reader ; 12 month warranty ; just 4 GB of RAM

The Lenovo ThinkPad E480 is an affordable office notebook with powerful hardware. Its Intel Core i5-8250U processor is a powerful yet energy-efficient CPU leading to a better than average power consumption that battery life most certainly benefits...

ThinkPad E480 (i5-8250U, RX 550) Laptop Review

Too hot stuff. The first 2018 ThinkPad is a real price-performance winner - a potential bestseller for Lenovo. Find out in our comprehensive review why the notebook is not recommendable in this configuration. Update BIOS 1.14: Massively reduced GPU...

Stylish & stable case ; Excellent keyboard ; Good touchpad, very good TrackPoint ; Matte IPS panel with good contrast values ; USB C with DP, PD & USB 3.1 Gen 2 ; Expandability: two RAM slots, M. 2 SSD + 2.5" HDD possible

Case warms up to dangerous 70 °C (158 °F) in the stress test ; Very slow PCIe-NVMe SSD ; Fan often runs with high frequency. Even in idle mode ; MicroSD instead of SD card reader ; Mediocre battery life ; GPU power reduction in battery operation ; Only...

The ThinkPad E480 is a tempting notebook with powerful components for an affordable price. However, one should not be blinded by a data sheet or theory: At the end of the day, performance in practice still counts. Hands off: If you do not want to burn...

Lenovo ThinkPad E480 Review

Lenovo has finally equipped the ThinkPad E series with some serious edge. Read on to learn how.

Subtle yet solid body design ; Already great keyboard now backlit ; Charging via USB Type-C port

Grainy and dull HD Display ; Lacklustre hard drive performance ; Lifting it is a mini-workout

The Lenovo ThinkPad E480 not only continues to wear the E series badge with pride but also returns to its roots by displaying some traditional ThinkPad traits. This new model is definitely a job well done.
