Lenovo ThinkPad W700 review

A hulking machine for the design professional that is simply a joy to use

Built-in Wacom tablet ; Powerful performance ; Fantastic screen

Quite bulky ; Cramped keyboard

Few machines can rival the performance offered by this machine, match that with a great spec and you're on to a winner

Lenovo ThinkPad W700 review

You can truly pile on the options when configuring the Lenovo ThinkPad W700, but our test system, while not bare-bones by any means, was relatively modestly equipped, with a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo T9600 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate.

The ThinkPad W700 may look understated - and it's a bit of a kitchen-sink approach to computing - but it's a top-flight notebook. For on-the-go graphics artists, or those looking for the ultimate mobile workstation, it's hard to beat.

According to IDC, the compound annual growth rate for the worldwide mobile workstation market has been more than 60% per year since 2002. The ThinkPad W700 extends Lenovo's commitment to workstation users, complementing the company's ThinkPad W500...

The classic ThinkPad keyboard is roomy and comfortable and has a separate numerical keypad. ThinkPad fans can enjoy the familiar pointing stick or opt to use the touchpad for cursor control. Both are responsive and easy to reach without having to...

Lenovo ThinkPad W700 (275854M)

Falls just short of being special.

Fast hardware, powerful graphics processor, good screen, excellent usability, latest networking options

Heavy, doesn't use a 7200rpm hard drive

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 (275854M) is a fast and feature-packed workstation with a very effective graphics processor. However, this notebook is let down by the use of a 5400rpm hard drive.

Lenovo ThinkPad W700 (27585GM)

Ultra-powerful and ultra-expensive.

Very fast, Wacom digitiser, good battery life

Wacom Digitiser is small, very expensive, heavy

This is a very fast workstation that features a small Wacom digitiser built into the right palm rest and the latest networking technology. But with its very heavy weight and sky-high price tag, users will need to decide if its worth buying this instead...

Lenovo's ThinkPad W700 gets reviewed, practicality gets questioned

You could tell from the specs sheet that Lenovo's ThinkPad W700 wasn't a common man's machine, and a review from the cats at Laptop Mag has all but confirmed that. Dubbed "a beast of a 17-inch [laptop]," this rig was marveled upon right from the ...

Lenovo ThinkPad W700: The Graphic Artist's Notebook

With a workstation's power (and price) in an understated package, this laptop is built for road-ready digital graphics artists.

Lightweight, for such a large notebook ; Excellent drawing tablet

Angle of view on LCD is pretty narrow ; Enormous power brick

Digitizer and color calibrator set a new bar for features in a notebook. Top notch performance all around. Unbeatable screen brightness at this size

Seems bigger than it needs to be: Lid is 20 inches diagonally to fit a 17 inch screen. 87 minutes of battery life is 84 more than the W700 will ever spend on and unplugged. DVD playback stuttered and ultimately crashed the system during our tests....
