Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga review: A true business-class machine

A superb thin, light and powerful laptop for business users on the move

Powerful ; Versatile ; Practical

Not the most stylish ; Could be speedier with more RAM

This isn’t the laptop you buy to impress your friends or attract envious looks from across the boardroom, but it is the laptop you buy if you want to carry around a true-business class machine that won’t weight down your briefcase, backpack or cabin...

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 and X380 (2018): Lenovo introduces thinner, lighter X-series laptops

Coffee Lake chips, Windows Hello support and rapid charging are highlights for new ThinkPad X

The ThinkPad X280 and X380 may not look particularly sleek or sexy but they are a solid step forward for the ThinkPad X series. The new Coffee Lake chips should move performance on and although there isn’t much in the way of new design, the fact that...

Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga

With standout features like an integrated, powered stylus and a keyboard that retracts in tablet mode, Lenovo's ThinkPad X380 Yoga is an excellent 2-in-1 convertible laptop for corporate road warriors.

Sturdy build quality. Built-in active stylus. Comfortable keyboard smooths flat in tablet mode. Fast charging.

Small touchpad. Frequent fan noise. Ethernet port requires proprietary adapter.

Bottom Line: With standout features like an integrated, powered stylus and a keyboard that retracts in tablet mode, Lenovo's ThinkPad X380 Yoga is an excellent 2-in-1 convertible laptop for corporate road warriors.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga has a comfortable keyboard and rechargeable stylus, but it doesn't last as long on a charge as some competitors.

Comfortable, clicky keyboard; Rechargeable stylus

Shorter than average battery life; Runs warm

Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga (i5-8250U, FHD) Convertible Review

Bikram Yoga. The ThinkPad X380 Yoga steps back into the limelight, this time with a less powerful processor. Despite the reduction in clock speed, the i5 variant still sweats under pressure. This and other small shortcomings make for a good package...

excellent build quality ; relatively lightweight ; good battery life ; great input devices ; Thunderbolt 3 ; good selection of ports ; low fan noise ; varied port selection ; good CPU performance

hot spots make lap use uncomfortable ; no WWAN ; limited upgrade options (e.g., soldered RAM) ; throttled performance under stress ; weak speakers

Lenovo's X380 Yoga scored well in our initial review but had some shortcomings. While the Core i7-8550U has an 18% faster clock speed on paper than the Core i5-8250U, it proved to be a bit too much for the X380 Yoga. The 8250U appears to be a better...

The X380 Yoga combines typical ThinkPad features with a 360-degree screen, keyboard lock-out in tablet modes and a bundled stylus.

Familiar design and solid build ; 360-degree screen rotation with keyboard lock-out in tablet modes ; Mobile broadband option ; Rechargeable stylus, housed on laptop

Battery life could be better ; Moderate screen brightness ; No ThinkShutter on webcam ; Speakers lack bass tones
