Microsoft Surface Book

Microsoft's Surface range of tablets has steadily been growing a huge following since the US powerhouse started shipping the devices in 2012. And for reasons that go beyond monstrous amounts of marketing and product placement.

Microsoft Surface Book review: One for the books

After picking up the Microsoft Surface Book the bag in which it was placed promptly ripped through at the handles as we wandered down the street. Ah, this isn't a lightweight tablet-esque Surface product and, we suppose, we learnt that the hard way...

Clever combination of tablet-style screen and powerful laptop/keyboard sections, muscle wire release system, great keyboard experience, funky hinge mechanism ensures firm/weighted laptop positioning

Hinge fairly upright at maximum and reverse position not solid enough, weighty, expensive, would like a smaller version (more Surface like), combined battery not as claimed (around 8-hours average)

So is the Microsoft Surface Book odds-on favourite for best in its class? In one sense, yes, because it's well conceived and potentially ultra-powerful hybrid device with a great screen and release mechanism.

Microsoft Surface Book review

The ultimate Windows 10 laptop, or a magnesium alloy flop?

Delightful keyboard ; Plenty of processing power ; Pixel-packed touchscreen

Expensive. Really expensive ; Struggles with gaming, despite its graphics card ; Average battery life

Shorn of its initial bugs, the Surface Book is a lustrous Windows laptop with premium appeal

Microsoft Surface Book review

An amazing laptop that does even more as a tablet

Futuristic design ; Unrivaled display ; Seamless tablet separation

Battery life falls well below promises ; Major updates are still in tow

While the Surface Book brings many technological innovations to the laptop space, its greatest strength is that it's just an all-around terrific device.

Microsoft Surface Book Review: In Depth

Microsoft Surface Book review: The Surface Book may look like a conventional laptop, but it retains much of what loyal Surface fans hold dear and packs a serious punch too.DesignThe Surface Book does not…

Versatile design w/ great keyboard ; Exceptional performance ; Stunning display

Awkward hinge design ; Expensive ; Heavy

The Surface Book is a valiant first foray into the realm of laptop computing hardware from Microsoft. It’s a decidedly unusual setup that works surprisingly well, with an emphasis on being a laptop first and a tablet second - essentially the reverse of...

Microsoft Surface Book hands-on review

Microsoft has unveiled its first ever laptop, the Surface Book, which sits alongside the Surface Pro 4 in its new line-up

It's a pricy little laptop, but it really does feel worth it for the practicality and design, as well as its build quality and the addition of the Surface Pen. I'd consider buying one myself, and everyone I spoke to at the Microsoft stand was in...

Microsoft Surface Book review

Microsoft's first laptop is also a strikingly sleek and breathtakingly expensive hybrid

Very attractive; Excellent build quality; Good stylus, Comfortable keyboard and touchpad

Expensive; Disappointing tablet battery life; Buggy

Like the Surface Pro tablets, the Surface Book is great if you fit its peculiar niche and have loads of cash to spare - and can put up with lingering, persistent bugs.
