Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio has a new screen hinge that still allows you to use this high-performance laptop as a tablet

Versatile hinge is great for digital artists ; Sharp and vibrant display ; Top-class design and keyboard ; Surprisingly good battery life

Weak graphics power compared to rivals ; Screen lacks pro-grade colour accuracy ; Stylus isn’t bundled in

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio offers a fantastic design for digital artists, allowing you to fold the screen flat against the keyboard to use it as a makeshift graphics tablet. But this may only be a worthwhile device for hobbyists and causal...

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review: State of the art

Microsoft's quirky, high-end laptop pushes the limits of hybrid design, but is it powerful and affordable enough for professionals? We find out.

Classic Surface build quality and attention to detail ; Good keyboard and touchpad ; High-spec screen

Expensive ; Hinge versatility could go even further ; Power ceiling isn’t that high for a professional device

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio hides its special skills using smart and careful design, making it the best portable Surface for designers and artists. However, there are still clear ways to improve it in a second-generation model - not least...

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review

The Surface Laptop Studio works well in each of its three distinct modes, but this new form factor won't please everyone looking for a hybrid laptop.

Great 120Hz screen ; All three modes work well ; Impressive battery life ; Solid performance

Expensive ; Limited to three fixed positions ; Not enough ports

The Surface Laptop Studio is technically the best 3-in-1 you can buy, with credible use cases for all three modes. However, you'll have to really want or need them to justify the high cost.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review: A 2-in-1 with niche appeal

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio is a stunning piece of technological engineering but it has plenty of shortcomings

Hinge lets you fold screen flat without lifting the laptop ; More powerful than the Surface Pro 8 ; MPP stylus compatibility

11th Gen Intel CPUs ; Stylus is an optional extra ; Heavy for a 14in laptop

There’s no doubt that the Surface Laptop Studio is a bold piece of laptop design and its hinged display makes a certain degree of sense, especially for people who spend a lot of their time sketching, inking and editing photos using a stylus. And, for...

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review: king of the hinge

Microsoft's Surface series gets another masterful entry, but it's pricey and it may fall short in a few areas for the more demanding pro users

Elegant hinge design ; Great build quality ; High-quality display

Does not include stylus ; Expensive for the performance on offer ; Hinge is not optimised for the best drawing/stylus angle

The king of the hinge returns, bringing an excellent screen and a haptic touchpad with it.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review: The multi-function notebook comes of age | IT PRO

A notebook, a presentation system and a tablet, all rolled into one

Truly transformable ; Excellent laptop functionality ; Clever Stage presentation and Studio tablet mode ; Great battery life ; Two Thunderbolt 4 connections

Adapter required for LAN or video connectivity ; No memory card reader ; Underpowered for some professional software ; Highest spec versions expensive

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio review: back to the drawing board

Microsoft rethinks the laptop.

Cool design ; Flexible screen positions without major compromises ; Fast refresh display with excellent pen support ; Excellent trackpad and keyboard

Short battery life ; Midrange performance despite top-tier price ; Limited port selection

Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop Studio looks like a traditional laptop from afar, but get closer and you’ll see it has something unique under its sleeve. But that uniqueness costs a lot, in both money and battery life.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio Review

Unique pull-forward touch screen ; Excellent keyboard ; Groundbreaking haptic touchpad ; Robust digital stylus support, including magnetic holder ; 120Hz screen refresh rate ; Long battery life

Disappointing performance, even with upgraded Core i7 and RTX 3050 Ti ; Only two USB ports ; Pricey

Packed with innovative features, Microsoft's Surface Laptop Studio presages a new breed of laptop for creative pros who are pen-input devotees. One big quibble: Performance isn’t nearly class-leading.
