Samsung Q1 Ultra Mobile PC

Samsung thinks that the Q1 could change the face of mobile computing, but is it change for the sake of it?

The first problem I encountered with the Q1 was controlling the pointer. You see with the analogue stick on the left, my first assumption was that I would use this to move the pointer, but this is not the case. You use the stylus and the touch screen...

Samsung Spruces Up The Q1 Ultra UMPC

It happened to the original Q1, so we shouldn't be too surprised.

Samsung Q1 Ultra review

The original Q1 was a dog's dinner of a keyboardless UMPC. But with full QWERTY powers, can the Ultra make up for its predecessor's mistakes?

It may be a watering down of the UMPC concept, but that’s exactly what Samsung needed to bring the best out of its Q1 computer

Samsung Q1 Ultra

The task of kick-starting the UMPC generation has inadvertently fallen to the Samsung Q1 Ultra. After a flurry of Vista-powered UMPCs from leading manufacturers including Sony, Asus and Nokia, the world has been waiting for that one supreme device

Good looking, Packed with features, Good display

Quite pricey, Awkward to use at times

A significant improvement over the original Q1, but as a concept the UMPC still has a long way to go

Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC

When it comes to the UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC), Samsung has really got behind the idea of what handheld computing should be. This is the third version in less than twelve months and is a move away from the original concept. UMPC was designed to be a...

Vista in your hands, bright screen

Awkward to use, slow to load

The Samsung Q1 Ultra isn’t a machine for the everyman, as you’ll have to have a specific need in mind to get the most from it. We used it for a couple of weeks and never really got used to the limited battery or slow start up. It’s got a WOW factor and...

Samsung Q1 Ultra HSDPA review

Samsung has been a long time supporter of the UMPC format and the latest addition to its dinky PC range is the Q1 Ultra HSDPA.

The Samsung Q1 Ultra HSDPA is a great device if you just need to stay online while you're on the move, but it's not really equipped for anything more taxing. It's also a bit too big to be easily portable, and the keyboard can be frustrating.

Samsung Q1 Ultra ultramobile laptop PC

The Samsung Q1 Ultra is a well-designed UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) that's full of potential. Unfortunately, much of the Samsung Q1 Ultra's potential remains unrealised.

Samsung's Q1 Ultra is intriguing, but more for its potential than its reality. Ideally, UMPCs would be media powerhouses that would be comfortable for light business tasks such as editing documents and for web browsing and email. However, the Samsung...

Samsung Q1 ultramobile PC review

Starting at $1,099, the Samsung Q1 seeks to combine elements of a laptop, a tablet, a PDA, a PVP, an MP3 player, a GPS module, and a gaming handheld into a form factor that falls between that of a smart phone/Pocket PC and an ultraportable laptop ....

Beautiful, featherweight design; decent-size screen; multiple methods to navigate menus and input text; plenty of networking options; dual-mic array.

Lacks keyboard; poor performance; short battery life; weak speaker sound.

The Samsung Q1's sleek case is definitely eye-catching, but we expect better performance and battery life for a thousand of our hard-earned bucks.
