Most netbooks are so similar that, when something slightly different comes along, we get all giddy, like a teenager queuing for the Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe Park. The 10.1-inch Toshiba NB520 is just such a machine, sporting a dual-core Intel Atom...

Dual-core processor; good screen; best audio we've heard from a netbook; great battery life.

Design isn't as slick as that of some rivals; no HDMI port.

The Toshiba NB520 netbook might lack the flashy design of some of its competitors, but decent performance, great speakers and impressive overall usability mean it's good value for money.

Excellent speakers for a netbook, and some nice media features too. It all depends on Toshiba's pricing

And then there's the question of price, on which Toshiba is remaining noncommittal right now. Given the Harman/Kardon involvement and the effort put into giving it a unique look, we're not expecting the NB520 to be among the bargains of the netbook...
