Toshiba Satellite M50-A-11C review

A powerful mid-range laptop - but it needs a little more polish

Fast processor ; Discrete graphics card ; Reasonable battery life ; Good keyboard ; Affordable

Average build quality ; Poor-quality screen ; Unimaginative design ; Terrible speakers ; No SSD

The M50 impresses with its choice of components, but is let down by poor screen and build quality.

Toshiba Satellite M50-A-11Q review

The build quality is good too, with a firm, comfortable keyboard and trackpad, and the M50 certainly doesn't look or feel like a budget laptop.

The M50-A-11Q provides very respectable performance, battery life and build quality at a competitive price. It's not perfect, and the screen's limited viewing angles are a clear weakness. Even so, it's well worth considering if you're on a tight budget...

A powerful laptop with dedicated graphics and a superb battery life for £550, but its below average screen holds it back

Toshiba Satellite M55

Reasonable price; double-layer DVD burner; multimedia controls; can play music and videos without booting up the operating system; exceptionally quiet, comfortable keyboard.

Colored lids are a bit garish; small mouse buttons.

The colorful Satellite M55 will satisfy your craving for a well-rounded, affordable thin-and-light.

Under its colored exterior lies an affordable, well-rounded thin-and-light.

Toshiba Satellite M50 (14-inch, 1.4GHz)

Despite its extremely affordable price and logical design, the M50 fails to stand out in terms of performance, features or battery life.

Highly affordable. Attractive chassis design. Fairly light at 2.4kg. Convenient multimedia buttons. Instant-on media playback function. Impressive Harman Kardon speakers.

Extremely poor battery life. Paltry 256MB of memory. Comparatively small hard drive. No Firewire port. No memory card reader.

Despite its extremely affordable price and logical design, the fact that the M50 fails to stand out in terms of performance or features, in addition to its miserly battery life, makes it impossible for us to recommend the notebook over competing...

Very good build quality

Touchpad is a pain. Preferred previous Toshiba laptop's separate left and right buttons and more controllable/deliberate arrangements.
