Toshiba Tecra X40-D

The Toshiba Tecra X40-D convertible-hybrid laptop delivers the design, sturdy build, component choices, and overall performance to support its premium price, but a few quirks hold it back.

Light chassis. Comfortable keyboard. Solid selection of ports. Multiple security options. Three-year warranty.

Pricey. Shorter battery life than rivals. Small auxiliary keys.

Bottom Line: The Toshiba Tecra X40-D convertible-hybrid laptop delivers the design, sturdy build, component choices, and overall performance to support its premium price, but a few quirks hold it back.

lid is thin and flexes easily ; fingerprints readily show ; keyboard is noisy and subpar ; speakers are thin ; display is mediocre compared to rivals

The Toshiba Tecra X40 is essentially the Portègè X30 with a 14-inch display. As such, it shares many of the same strengths and weaknesses of its smaller brother. The beautiful chassis is well engineered and very sturdy while remaining fairly light for...
