Review Acer Travelmate 8172T Notebook

Subnotebook olé. Small, light and economical, with the whole ense

long battery life; quiet operating noise; very good case quality; low-maintenance surfaces; good office perforance; docking port; UMTS available; display usable outdoors; good price/performance ratio; very light power supply with exchangeable plug heads

no digital image output; below average USB performance; screen with low contrast ratio and dull colours; small touchpad; no ExpressCard, eSata, USB 3.0; Inadequate configuration with wide-reaching consequences

With matte display in the 11.6" or 12" format in the same price class there's the Lenovo's Thinkpad X100e and Samsung's N510. In a different price- and performance-class there's the HP Elitebook 2540p and Lenovo Thinkpad X201.

Acer travelmate Timeline 8172

Core i3 is snappy and more than sufficient for basic tasks. Haven't tried any seriously strenuous applications;however, you don't buy a 11.6" netbook to play game or the like. Aesthetics are fantastic! It looks very simple but refined. No glossy...

The Motherboard does heat up quite a bit on the CPU side, but is to be expected. Touchpad is very small and keys take a bit of time to get used to, backspace key esp. it's just a half cm too short

Great initial impression

I got this for business and travel use. Mostly for email and web apps where having the larger screen resolution than on my netbook really makes a difference. I happened across this model while looking at the more consumer-oriented models and am very...

Light, quiet, matte finish very professional looking, anti-glare screen not too reflective, cool while just reading and doing email ; Not too much bloatware ; Keyboard has very little flex and layout and full size is great. Good tactile feel to keys...

Nothing serious ; The palm rest and track pad are somewhat shortened because the battery is completely flat forcing the keyboard to be positioned further from the screen. However, the keypad is very responsive and feels very good to the touch so the...
