performance

ViewSonic WMA100

Streams music, photos, and video from networked PCs; supports standard and high-definition TV resolutions; DVI and component-video outputs; coaxial digital audio output.

Doesn't have front-panel display or controls; doesn't display album artwork; not compatible with music purchased on the Internet; not Mac compatible.

ViewSonic's WMA100 navigation shortcomings and lackluster music features outweigh its ability to stream files directly from the company's companion Media Gateway routers.

ViewSonic WMA100

Keep your eyes on ViewSonic. It has one of the nicest (except in looks) digital media adapters in the ViewSonic WMA100.

Wired and wireless digital media hub with optional hard drive/gateway ($399 or $499 extra). Internet radio. Universal remote. Compact design. Outputs to TV or monitor.

Square-edged gray-and-grayer box is terribly unattractive. New-device glitches. Hard drive gateway may have more features (and cost) than you want.

ViewSonic WMA100 Wireless Media Adapter

ViewSonic's well-connected WMA100 frees your existing media files, but you're on your own when it comes to premium content.

Good audio and video streaming Internet radio support• Simple setup

Can't multitask Lack of access to good online content• Sluggish load times for high-res photos
