Roku 2 XS

Roku's tiny internet media player makes it to the UK, but is it work the money?

Easy to set-up ; Simple navigation ; Great version of Angry Birds

No coax or optical digital audio out ; Lacks DLNA support ; Poor USB media playback ; Lacks some key services such as YouTube and Lovefilm

Once you account has been created you select the channels – Roku's name for the various video on demand services and games - that you want to add to the player. This channel list then gets sent to the player where they're automatically downloaded and...

User friendly, great media capabilities and competitively priced – but not much mainstream content

Easy to set up and use ; motion-sensitive gaming remote ; plenty of free content

Local file support could be more straightforward ; not much mainstream content

Want a family-friendly streamer with oodles of slightly gonzo content? This is it

Roku 2 XS

TV is changing, and it's happening quickly. As recently as 10 years ago, the idea of TV being delivered over the internet was a pipe dream. Now, we can watch near-broadcast quality video, streamed to us over the internet with a wait of just a few...

Neflix is brilliant on the Roku, some great content available, Crackle has some free movies, compact box

No-premium movie rental service, not designed to stream video from your home network, XBox and WD TV are both better value on a features basis

When you buy a Roku, what you're really doing is getting a Netflix streamer that does a few other nice bits and pieces. There's plenty of other useful content here, like BBC iPlayer and some fantastic video from the likes of TED and Revision3, but we...

Roku 2 XS review

Roku's 2 XS is a set-top box for streaming online content to your TV, and it does a pretty good job of it. The Roku 2 XS looks just like the LT model but comes in a glossy black design rather than purple and black. It's small enough to hold your hand.

The Roku 2 XS is worth the extra money compared to the LT to gain Full HD output is a neat device for bringing smart features to your TV. We love how easy to use the Roku is and its affordable price. It is missing a few of the big name catch-up...

Roku Roku 2 XS review

The Roku 2 XS lets you stream media from the internet direct to your TV, turning your last-generation LCD or CRT TV into a next-gen Smart TV. You connect it to your TV using either the HDMI or composite outputs, with HDMI being essential if you want to...

A lovably compact media streamer with a great interface, but its LAN streaming and file support is limited

The Roku 2 XS is a cute, well-designed and easy-to-use media streamer. It’s also compact enough to take away with you so that you can enjoy your media subscriptions on the move, but its inability to stream media over UPnP or DLNA is disappointing. It's...

A dinky little high-definition streaming-content player

Roku 2 XS review

The Roku 2 XS is clearly designed to compete with AppleTV

affordable media player with access to BBC iPlayer and Sky NOW

no LoveFilm or other UK broadcasters, requires credit card details during installation

Its graphical interface may not be as slick as that of the AppleTV, and the need to provide credit card details before you can watch anything is annoying. However, the Roku 2 XS works well and does provide a slightly wider range of services than the...

Roku 2 XS Review

Has this dinky box of tricks got what it takes to compete with its more fully specced competition?

The Roku 2 XS is an attractive little piece of kit that’s ideal for someone looking to turn their old, but still capable TV, into a newfangled Smart TV without too much fuss. Unfortunately that's pretty much where the good news ends, as its lack of...

REVIEW: Roku 2 XS streaming player (UK)

Already holding the title of the most popular TV streaming box in the US, Roku are now setting their sights on the UK market. The Roku 2 XS, with its Bluetooth motion controlled gaming capabilities and access to Netflix movie streaming, is their top of...

The Roku 2 XS streaming box is a great bit of kit. With access to so much online TV content, much of it of a high quality nature thanks to the likes of Netflix, TED and the BBC iPlayer channels, it's more than a match for its Apple TV rival. Of course,...
