Review: Western Digital TV Live Hub

The hard drive company has refreshed its streaming hardware, releasing two new boxes with improved capabilities that seem intent on out-Rokuing Roku.

Small media-streaming TV set-top boxes centralize online streaming services as well as all media on your home network. Plays well with USB drives and game consoles. Surprisingly easy to use

Remote is a bit simplistic. Setting up services is repetitive and slow. Connecting to your home network can be trying. Not as many services to choose from yet

In mid 2009 Western Digital released the WDTV which promised to deliver all your USB based media directly to your TV either by HDMI or component video. It was the beginning of what would promise to be a rather interesting fight between manufacturers to...

Review: Western Digital TV Live Hub

My prediction 2011 will be the Year of Media Streaming. What I am also predicting is the WD TV Live Hub media set top box will not be one of the devices on everyone's must have list.

large storage, low price, easy PC set up

no Wi-Fi, Mac-o-phobic and feels toy-like

Plays every file format I have thrown at it - superb!

Extremely limited streaming. Does NOT stream UK essentials (eg BBC Iplayer, 4OD and ITV player)

Easy to hook up.

Navigating the menus is tiresome. I expected more internet access than is actually provided, I think this was probably down to the description 'up-selling' the product and I should have looked more carefully. It does 90% of what I expected it to and it...

Why does anyone buy DVDs anymore ? They are just not required. My five kids used to trash my DVD collection. Now I have everything as files and backed up. No more lost DVDs or wrong Disc in case. All my pictures instantly, music videos at the press of...

Could improve file management functionality but that is it !!! Even the remote is a sensible size so I can find it when the kids hide it. But as I have three units now I have a better chance of finding a remote.

Pure dynamite! Once is hooked into the network is dynamite! I am using iMac and a Samsung 8 Series to stream media files! I admit that I'm very impressed!!!
