Blu R1 Plus review

The most affordable Android phone we've ever tested

Incredibly affordable price ; Sizable 4,000mAh battery ; Camera is better than expected

3D game performance is terrible ; Doesn’t work on Verizon or Sprint ; Android Marshmallow is now dated

The Blu R1 Plus is the 2017 sequel to one of the cheapest Android phones on Amazon, and it’s back: faster, sturdier and longer lasting than before. At $159 it has a completely adequate HD display, metal finish and long battery life. Just don’t expect...

Blu R1 Plus

The Blu R1 Plus is an affordable unlocked phone with a sturdy build and a bright HD display, but performance issues and merely average battery life put it behind competitors.

Affordable. Bright display. Expandable storage and dual SIM slots.

Sluggish performance. No fingerprint sensor. Outdated software. Unimpressive battery life.

The $160 Blu R1 Plus is affordable, but beyond that, it just doesn't have much to offer. The phone is outmatched in nearly all regards by the Life One X2, which we think is well worth the extra $40 for its sharper display, faster processor, fingerprint...

Blu R1 Plus Review: Here’s How Much Phone $159 Buys

If you want a no-frills smartphone at an affordable price, the $159.99 Blu R1 Plus deserves consideration, thanks to its better-than-average battery life and decent rear camera. You will have to use the phone on a GSM-based carrier, however, and you'll...

Affordable price ; Large, 5.5-inch screen ; Not bloated with unnecessary apps ; Decent rear camera for a budget phone ; Very good battery life

Not available for CDMA networks like Verizon or Sprint ; Subpar performance ; Runs older version of Android

This Blu R1 Plus offers a big screen and decent camera along with better-than-average battery life for a cheap price.

Review: Blu R1 Plus

Blu is back with another Android handset for U.S. consumers who prefer the unlocked life. The Blu R1 Plus packs a big screen and an even bigger battery. You can opt to use the phone on AT&T or T-Mobile, with support for up to two phone numbers thanks...

The Blu R1 Plus is a mediocre handset with only a few truly redeeming qualities. If all you want is an unlocked phone with a big screen and killer battery life, then perhaps you'll be happy with the R1 Plus. I generally want more from my phone, which...
