CAT S60

The CAT S60 is one of the most interesting smartphones I've tested this year. Featuring a rugged, near-indestructible chassis, the S60 is the first phone I've seen with a built-in thermal imaging sensor.

Cat S60 review

Can you feel the heat? Because you'll certainly be able to see it with this handset…

One very tough rugged phone ; Good performance levels ; Built-in FLIR camera

Pretty hefty ; Also pretty expensive ; Small size of display could be problematic for some

This is a thick phone, but it boasts some impressive specs for a rugged handset along with a very unique feature – the FLIR camera. The S60 will be worth the asking price for its target audience.

Cat S60 review: Tough build and thermal imaging make for a phone like no other

Cat phones of the past have never been about having the best specifications, more about having the toughest phone build on the planet. It's clear from the outset that the Cat S60 is a phone built for a niche market, so comparing it to phones like the...

Incredibly durable build, can survive being in water up to 5m, long battery life, thermal imagery

Screen is small, bulky build, performance is hit-and-miss

It's clear from the outset that the Cat S60 is a phone built for a niche market, so comparing it to phones like the iPhone 6S or Galaxy S7 would be foolish. The features that really matter on the S60 are the ones that shine through - its specialist...

Cat S60 preview: Heat vision, Android 6.0 and can take an underwater beating

The Cat S60 is a huge leap forward for the company. It's no longer just about being the most tough phone on the planet, it's now about being cutting edge too. As such Cat has crammed in a Flir thermal imaging camera, full Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and...

CAT S60 thermal imaging smartphone review

Thermal imaging like the Predator and built to last - it's our full review of the super-tough CAT S60

Better thermal vision than the Predator ; Properly rugged, will survive a real beating ; Battery life for days

Won’t win any style awards ; Overkill for most people ; Costs as much as a flagship phone

Built to take a pounding and thermal imaging is a killer feature – if spend enough time on a building site

Cat S60 review

The Cat S60 is thick and hefty with an unapologetically industrial design. In addition to being a tough SOB that can endure 6-foot drops and the most waterproof phone made to date, it also has one thing no other phone possesses: a built-in thermal...

The Cat S60 features a built-in thermal imaging camera. It can consistently survive 6 foot drops onto concrete and can take a 16 foot dunking into water. It has an expandable microSD card slot and loud front-facing speakers.

It's significantly thicker and heavier than other smartphones. The thermal imaging feature while cool and fun, is mostly useless aside from some specific cases.

The Cat S60's durable build is impressive, but its appeal is limited to those who can make good use of its built-in thermal imaging camera.

Cat S60 review: hands on the smartphone with a built-in thermal imaging camera

The Cat S60 offers something that no other smartphone has offered before – a built-in thermal imaging camera. We went hands-on with the Cat S60 at MWC to see if it can compete with its rivals. In this Cat S60 review we consider Cat S60 design,...

Based on our limited time with the Cat S60, we're not too sure whether it'll be poplar with the general public. Its bulky form factor may be off-putting for some, and the addition of a thermal camera may not be enough to persuade a consumer to buy the...

Hands-on with the Cat S60 smartphone

If you're reading this in a coffee shop sipping a skinny mocha Frappuccino, the Cat S60 smartphone is probably not for you.

Solid and well constructed, great onboard sound, thermal imaging camera can make a difference, good specs

Smallish screen, heavy, pricey

CAT's latest S60 smartphone went official earlier this week, and it is beyond interesting. It is the first smartphone to offer unseen before water resistance - up to 5 meters deep, but it is also the first smartphone to pack a thermal camera.

Cat S60

The Cat S60 is a unique unlocked phone with an extra-rugged body and a built-in thermal imaging camera, but it's relatively costly for the specs.

Accurate thermal imaging camera. Rugged, waterproof build. Useful pre-installed apps. Latest Android software. Expandable storage.

Sluggish camera sensors. Mediocre specs for the price. Back flap can pop open upon impact. Lackluster call quality.

Conclusions If you need a super-rugged phone with a built-in thermal imaging camera, look no further than the Cat S60. But at $600, it's nearly as pricey as top-tier devices like the rugged Samsung Galaxy S7 Active and the shatterproof Moto Z Force...
